The heated issue inflames a court case, in which an Arizona man is convicted for leaving water jugs for migrants in the desert.Walt Staton wanted to help people, and his tool was a water jug. U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service said his jugs endangered wildlife.

Here's a great article to debate upon.

Do you use he plastic jugs to help hydrate the illegal immigrants, or do you ban them to save the endangered wildlife in the area?

Very controvercial debate in Arizona!

What a great person this man is. I do understand the worry about wildlife getting hurt from the bottles. And is someone going back out there to pick them all up? There simply has got to be a better way. But, what?

At least he had a heart and cared for these people.. perhaps he was ignorant to the fact that plastic is bag for animals... but a little education goes a long way... to leave people to die is the desert is also not coool perhapsa the authorities could be educated on that....

- another aid group, in fact, runs three stations, each with two 55-gallon water drums and spigots. -
Of the two this seems to be a much more workable solution. What's wrong with filling up the bottle you already have? My mother is an iimmigant but she came here leagally. Framkly with all the crap going on in the states, I don't see the draw. Economic woes, education is below standard, housing slump, we barely grow anything any more. Thanks Kat have a great weekend.

Oh there has to be a better way. You can't let people die, but you have to take care of the animals too. Did anyone notice the body of water in the picture behind them?

I think if the Gov. is truly just interested in helping wildlife they could have spent the $50,000 for prosecuting this man in a better way. If they encouraged him to place barrels of water on the trail with another barrel for small bottles the travelers could refill and carry with them, it would be the same as what is done in other parks. Placing trash cans out there would take care of the trash problem. $50,000 could buy a lot of trash cans and water barrels and I would think Walt would happily volunteer to place and maintain them. If instead the court just wanted to discourage immigration here, they are prosecuting the wrong man. The many corporations that use these people up should be targeted. Anyone who has seen Fast Food Nation knows this. We have an illegal employer problem in this country!

By all means help those poor people who may be dying in the desert!

The ILLEGAL immigrants are coming here ILLEGALLY. They CHOSE to risk their lives. The animals did not. The public shouldn't have to pay for garbage pickup for illegal immigrants. Stay home in your own country and come in LEGALLY.

You are absolutely correct! A Christian does not aid an abet someone breaking and entering illegally.
