When Mr. Obama takes the stage at Oslo City Hall this December, he won't be the first sitting prez to receive that prize, but maybe most controversial. Here's why I think he deserves the prize....

First, I love Bono! I do believe he has more clout than God nowadays. Ok, that wasn't meant to insult anyone (esp. God) *crosses herself*, and it's a great column he wrote about OUR President...not his. Yes, he's European, but he believes - as I do, that the only way we can "rebrand America" is through this president's actions.

---------------------------------

A few of Bono's thoughts:

The president said that he considered the peace prize a call to action. And in the fight against extreme poverty, it’s action, not intentions, that counts. That stirring sentence he uttered last month will ring hollow unless he returns to next year’s United Nations summit meeting with a meaningful, inclusive plan, one that gets results for the billion or more people living on less than $1 a day. Difficult. Very difficult. But doable.

The Nobel Peace Prize is the rest of the world saying, “Don’t blow it.”

But that’s not just directed at Mr. Obama. It’s directed at all of us. What the president promised was a “global plan,” not an American plan. The same is true on all the other issues that the Nobel committee cited, from nuclear disarmament to climate change — none of these things will yield to unilateral approaches. They’ll take international cooperation and American leadership.

The president has set himself, and the rest of us, no small task.

Unbelievable article. Previously, not a Bono fan. Not that I didn't like him, just had no idea what the hoo-ha was. Yes, now I see.

This article so genuinely identifies the immensity of the opportunity for ALL of us.

It is imperative that we embrace it. As succinctly as I can, we are dealing with war on so many fronts, and on so many levels, that to allow too much time regarding it all from that perspective, threatens failure. As a collective, because that is what is required to provide the energy for the mass healing necessary, we must stay focused.

Not vision quest, but vision realized.

Not a big fan of the band, but I admire Bono, and this well-wrought little gem of a column. Food for thought.

I love Bono!! I have always love U2 and the messages within their music. Bono has remained humble and could very well be a CARE 2 member! It seems he sees with his heart and works to make a difference. I would go out with him!!!!
O'Bama is a very important first step of rebranding America. Thanks Kat!

Here's what I mostly love about Bono & his work. He's used his celebrity to promote some very worthy causes. He's intelligent, compassionate, talented at MANY things, and remains humble & up-2-date about all he gets invovled in. He carries CLOUT - not just in the recording world, but in so many diverse areas of the world that when he talks, world leaders listen. Another thing.......and this is a turn-on for me....he's a role model to so many young adults, adults, and has lasted through several decades because of all of this!

I admire Bono extremely, for his humanitarian deeds, his beliefs, the music of U2, and I'm sadly missing the U2360 tour. I saw them twice, . I'm speeceless. I just Love his causes and the Magnificent music... Always forever now! I think he'd be better than any president.

I agree with you Chazzie! I think some of his vast sex appeal is that he's such a compassionate MAN! His voice is raspy, but his heart is smooth as silk. His band can pretend to be brash & rock-y, but their words have turned a world upside down. People listen when he sings, speaks - or as in this article - when he writes (both songs & praise).

I'm quite sad to have missed him this week when he & U2 were here in AZ...but I've gotten to see him twice now, too, Fran. But it doesn't take just his songs to make my heart/soul flutter - it's the kindness/caring in his heart that makes me want to faint!

*did I really just say that??*
