The bill would also allow victims to obtain restraining orders using prior convictions and would require California courts to provide information about domestic violence convictions. A fact sheet of the bill states that 110 women and 24 men were murdered by their partners in 2006.

Alexis Moore, survivor of domestic violence, executive director of Survivors in Action, and sponsor or the bill, said, "If I had known that my abuser had a domestic violence conviction prior to our relationship, it may have saved me from permanent nerve damage."

Go California!

T.Y. Kathy. It is too bad that they don't have this everywhere.
If batterers cannot get the first woman they abused to go back, they will just beat another. Dangerous violent offenders of women just get better and better at it, as they go along and more violent and crafty to keep getting away with it. They should be in jail, but if they are not, then women should at least have a shred of a chance to get free or not be the next unwitting victim..People too frequently try to deny that so many women everywhere are the most unjustly abused people on earth and the least 'deserving' of it, That other people or animals besides women & children are also harmed is no excuse not to focus on the overwhelming issue of ongoing epidemic levels of violence against women even in their own homes and even when their countries are not at war, because the women have been kept on the back burner long, long enough...Kudos to You!

I'm glad for you all Kathy. What a relief it must be. I hope they keep doing more like that.
