Obama Catching "Hell" From Catholic League Over Pfleger

US Politics & Gov't  (tags: USA, Obama, Catholic League, Catholic vote, Catholics, Michael Pfleger )

The Catholic League sharply criticized Barack Obama Friday for his ties to controversial Catholic minister Michael Pfleger, saying in a statement the Illinois senator should have severed ties with him long ago. Why hang with these clerics????

After attacking Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) from the pulpit of the Obama family church, Trinity United Church of Christ, Father Michael Pfleger on Friday was rebuked by Chicago's Cardinal Francis George. Pfleger promised the Cardinal to muzzle himself when it comes to politics--and not even mention any candidate by name.

This episode--triggered by the media savvy Pfleger--comes as Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) is on the verge of clinching the Democratic presidential nomination and is working to win Catholic votes. The Democratic National Committee's Rules and Bylaws Committee meets Saturday here to wrestle with how to seat the disputed Michigan and Florida delegates.

"Racial issues are both political and moral and are also highly charged. Words can be differently interpreted, but Fr. Pfleger¹s remarks about Senator Clinton are both partisan and amount to a personal attack. I regret
that deeply," George said.

Ok, I'm seeing a VERY, VERY disturbing & repetitive sign right about now. And, it's a double-sign ...that of saying one thing and doing another. Obama cannot continue to associate himself with ministers (well, of COURSE, Obama wants you to think he doesn't feel the same way!), who keep showing up at this Trinity United Church of Christ! And I don't like what the two guys are preaching at all. In fact, if a minister of mine would stand for or preach about ANY of the issues Pfleger or Wright do, I'd certainly be marching ..............right out of that church - forever!

“Senator Obama says he wants to bring people together. Then why does he choose as his clerical friends people like Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Father Pfleger?" Donohue also said. "They are two peas in a pod, both equally divisive, separated only by the color of their skin.”

I look around my circle of friends and associates and there are artists, musicians, aspiring film makers and writers, mystics, ghost hunters, pagans, devout Christians and passionate advocates. And I think to myself how did I manage such circle of friends and associates? And then it dawns on me... they share the same interests as me! Tell me who your friends and associates are and I will tell you who you ARE.

Nice circle of friends and associates, Obama, your aura really attracts those that best describes you. And you think you will win the white house with all that baggage? Oh boy, you are a "Karl Rove" dream! If you are nominated, which I seriously doubt, RNC will unleash a campaign that will make kerry swift boater attacks look like child play. But,if any thing, Obama, your life will make a good TV mini series.

AS A ROMAN CATHOLIC, I AM DISGUSTED AND DEEPLY SADDEN BY PFLEGER - that type of divisive and racist sentiment does not have a place in the Catholic Religion. Pfleger needs to be discommunicated from the church, I will NEVER step in to his church. Pfleger knows better... there is no discrimination in Heaven. What demon got inside of you Pfleger using the cloth for your own sorry circus ambition? By the way, there is no discrimination in hell either, door is wide open for those that preach like you.

Blue, you're obviously NOT wanted on my news! If you can't say something positive, it's time you find someone else's news to haunt.

Maria, you have so eloquently said what SO MANY people are feeling. I wish to personally THANK YOU for leaving this comment so that anyone reading these comments have something INTELLIGENT, rather than NEGATIVE to read.

When I saw that stuff being spouted by that Priest, I was really disgusted. The fact that Hillary had a background of years being involved in trying to help children, etc., being very involved in the Clinton administration (remember Bill said buy one get one free before he ran the first time), served a full term as a Senator and was reelected by a large majority and has specific details on how to handle many of the important issues facing our country was ignored by that Priest. Hillary was clearly not running on the fact that she is entitled to the position because she is white. On the other hand Obama does suddenly pop up in the public spotlight and has no real background dealing with national issues. He hasn't even served one term as a Senator. He just said that he would make change and suddenly he is Jesus Christ superstar. It seems that perhaps it is Obama who is entitled to the position because he is black. No one dares question him on his experience, his associations, his statements, etc. because if they do they must be a racist. The Obama supporters have accused Hillary, Bill Clinton and her other supporters of using the race card, but it is they who are using the race card.

could it be unconditional love?

There are several topics many people can not discuss without near warefare:
Race
Religion
Abortion

The religious friends of Obama is an indication of the man himself.

I think that Maria hit the nail on the head. We all see people by the company they keep. If you surround yourself with people aho are biased, racist, unintelligent people, then certainly you are going to be seen as having the same type of character. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. Very well stated Maria.

Not only does Obama associate with the likes of Wright and Pfleger, but he is raising hia children in this environment. Parents don't send their children to a church which espouses a belief system with which they don't agree. That as much as anything else indicates what Obama truly believes and that throwing Wright and everybody else under the bus was just a politician doing whatever he needs to do to win.

now I remember why I walked away from the Catholic Church. My reason, its misogynistic teachings.

Neither candidate, an African American or a woman, stands a chance against the Catholic dogma.

BTW, Kactus, maybe you should re-read the first amendment, the part about freedom of speech. Blue has just as much right to post her opinion here as you do. This is one of the reasons why C2 staff removed the blocking feature from the news network.

Carol, that R & H verse gave me chills! That is one of the things that has bothered me the most about Obama and his church, the fact that his children have been absorbing these hateful, racist rants. And watching the rest of the congregation cheer these preachers on shows that this church has a definite culture of hatred and racism.

And Paige, of course Kactus values the first amendment. It is Blue who abuses it. C2 staff considers it "flaming" if someone cuts and pastes the same comment into post after post on thread after thread - especially when they have nothing to do with the article or discussion. Since Blue is so keen on "rules" she should follow them herself.

I do not agree with everything, an often not even a majority, of what my friends believe. That doesn't mean I can't like them, appreciate them for what they do and know. I shall tell them when I am uncomfortable with their statements and actions but I also recognize that they have this right to say and do as they believe and to themselves be true. I have had mentors who have had beliefs that I chose not to adopt. I have had ministers make statements and pronouncemtns that I did not believe in. The last one being whether a practicing homosexual could be a minister of his church. I do not support Senator Obama although I like and respect him. Him having a minister with whom he respects but makes statements neither of us believe in does not change that. Give him some slack on this; it;s what we all do.

Timothy....You opinions count & are true as you see this subject.
But, Obama will be holding this country in his hand as Bush has for the last eight years. So, we do want & deserve a man/president who is morally, spiritually truthful with the people of the United States, With that said there are far far too many contradictions in what Obama has done & said so far.

I'm judgeing this man by the company he is keeping. And his company seems hateful towards only the whites of America. Obama is talking out of both sides of his mouth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I agree.., if you are a candidate to be the President of the United States of America.., then you are subject to much more scrutiny. Also, the "law of attraction" is very real. Except for some unusual situations or unforeseen circumstances, the company you keep is a reflection of yourself..., as they are a reflection of you. Remember too, at our very core of being.., we are All One..from the Divine Source.

This sermon was very disgusting.

Bette, Thank you, as do yours. I fear that will not be the case. If there is a cult of personality, it is going to disappear like the proverbial honeymoon ending. Bush maintained dictatorial and ridiculous power because of two reasons: The GOP members congress, for all its faults, is slow to disintegrate into disperate and opposing factions and generally unite behind their president; and the most ungodly consequence of 9/ll: hysteria and the emergence of Gaius Julius Bush, savior and defender of the free world. Much like the start of Bill Clinton's presidency with his large mandate and both houses, the democratic party soon started to splinter off into uberlibera, ulatraliberal, liberal, middle of the road, and conservative. That was his his genius, to find the common ground in his party and the republicans. It's a lesson Hillary has learned with her experience and I'm afraid it will not be there Barrack and he is going to grind to a standstill similar to JFK. It's not that Barrack will have too much power; it's that he will have too little.
