CHILDREN'S groups reacted with anger last night after the government announced plans to force single parents to seek work when their youngest child reaches the age of seven.

What are these parents/Parent doing while the child is at school. I can see wanting to be a stay home mom....but to suck off the goverment to have that privilege isn't fair.

Some 7.93 million people are classified as economically inactive, able to work but not doing so. (in the U.K.)

Currently, a lone parent qualifies for income support until their youngest child turns 16. Mr Freud said income support should be replaced with the less generous JSA when children turn 12.

A government green paper published yesterday said the age-12 rule will be introduced from October next year. But in 2010, the age limit will fall to seven.

in california you are required to go to work when your child is 5 even if they arent in scool.. or if you cant afford child care
