I keep hoping that an evolutionary leap will occur first before "we" decide to destroy ourselves.

What Mr. El Baradei says makes sense about the nuclear threat of mutual annihilation growing and why it's growing. He left out just one reason why. When Pres. Bush announced his new policy of pre-emptive war -- that the U.S. reserves the right to attack any nation it deems to be a "rogue" nation, he really started the nuclear ball rolling down the hill. Now every nation feels that it potentially can arbitrarily be considered a "rogue" nation by one administration or another -- whoever the American people choose to run the U.S., they all feel threatened to one degree or another. They feel a greater need to try to survive. What better way then to get "The Bomb"? Where they used to think that, since the U.S. is a democratic state, they were safe because the American people wouldn't elect a nut who was ready to attack anybody he had an itch to invade. The American people let them down. Look who we elected (O.K., he was able to steal his first term) for eight years. Now they feel that they must protect themselves. Trust once lost isn't easy to get back. We're now at the O.K. Corral.
