""“I think that the prime minister is losing his mind to make such a provocation now, which goes against the Americans more than the Palestinians,” he said by phone. “The main goal of this action is to destroy any chance for further negotiations, which is exactly what the Americans are trying to do.”

Moreover, Margalit contended that the move will result in Israel’s increased isolation internationally."

Very true

Meretz Councilman Dr. Meir Margalit, who holds the east Jerusalem Portfolio, responded to Thursday’s government approval of tenders for construction of homes in the eastern portion of the city by questioning Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s sanity.

Of the 1,500 homes approved for construction beyond the Green Line, 400 will be built in the Ramat Shlomo neighborhood of Jerusalem and the rest will be built in a number of different settlements in the West Bank. During a 2010 visit by US Vice President Joe Biden, announced plans to construct there sparked a major row with the US regarding building rights in sections of the capital that are located over the Green Line.

They were also seen as destabilizing the proximity talks now taking place between Israel and the Palestinian Authority.

“I think that the prime minister is losing his mind to make such a provocation now, which goes against the Americans more than the Palestinians,” he said by phone. “The main goal of this action is to destroy any chance for further negotiations, which is exactly what the Americans are trying to do.”

One should note the last sentence from the excerpt above:

“The main goal of this action is to destroy any chance for further negotiations, which is exactly what the Americans are trying to do.”

Yet - people get upset if one points out the fact that all and every action by polit-Israel speaks loud and clear: "we do not want peace". How is a sane person to understand these announcement of ever expanding the settlements and adding more and more? A camouflaged peace offer which we are too stupid to understand?

Just asking ...

It seems to me that Netanyahu is adding fuel to the fire for boycotts, etc.

It's similar to how Oklahoma, which really suffers from tornados, which could well be worsened by climate change,, is now taxing solar power.

How anti-Semitic! How could the prime minister of Israel possibly lose his mind?

At the end of the day you have to wonder who’s causing more damage to Israel, Hamas or Netanyahu!

Amazing how there are always plenty of permits for Jews to build on Palestinian land, but rarely are they granted to Palestinians, who find it difficult just to expand current dwellings on their existing land to accommodate expanded families, much less build new dwellings. Unstated in the article is the fact that this land does not belong to Israel, and all such permits, dwellings and settlements given to Jewish Israelis are illegal. Then again, this is the Jerusalem Post, and it's surprising they even allowed most of the space in the article to be given to criticism.

This is just a continuation of the same old story--Zionists have been involved in land grabs in Palestine for well over a century, to their shame and the shame of their enablers.

The person on the council is exaggerating a bit, while the Mayor is glossing the whole thing over, in typical hasbara fashion. Netanyahu is no more insane than any past Israeli leaders, and no less bold than some of his predecessors. The suit and tie can't hide he is merely another Zionist thug with blood on his hands.

Armes Israel, es kann sich keine menschlichen Politiker leisten. In Deutschland ist das auch so Merkel und Konsorten schaffen es nicht mal sich an Gesetze zuhalten.

Thanks for the article...yes a normal person would think this move is insane.....and not good for Israel's image and future....but then again are we dealing with "normal"...some people are just "power struck".

How can he loose his mind when he does not have one to begin with! An insane man with no conscience or morals!

Netanyahu carries on doing what he does because the US govt does nothing to stop him. I'm not one to start a petition against his actions - and it would be interesting to see the support it gets and how he reacts.
