Well that stop and made me think --- thank you for posting this -- noted with a green star.

Thank you David for your comment. I am an American and know it to be true. America lost the recipe in favor of corporate greed and the top 2% who stash their cash in tax havens while the masses go hungry, loose their social security, and any other benefit that is for the people.

Great video Sherri, sure does open your eyes. Very sad we are not the greatest country anymore, but I think most of us have known that. Thanks for this!

This is history. Countries start, grow, become great, greater and then the greatest. Countries then start to deteriorate, for inner and outer reasons,Some may continue as great and others may be divided and disappear. At the same time regular countries become great ,greater, the greatest and replace the deteriorating countries.Look at the Roman empire,Persian empire.Byzantine empire.Islamic empire, the British empire .......etc. The question is which country is going to replace USA ? Europe or China?

I would say Sherri that we still are a great country! If this country goes down it will be from the inside not the outside. Our leadership today in this administration is totally anti American and we as Americans MUST take our country back. The spirit of America is still here but we must fight to take our country back and keep it!! Too many I think are willing to feel it is hopeless..nothing is hopeless unless one is willing to resort to defeat! Only then is it hopeless! Thanks!

This is a video I've seen before and totally identify with, and feel as angry as the speaker because as passionate as I feel about turning this country around, I know that it is destroying itself - it is NOT the "greatest" - I think the Vietnam war was its turning point - hard to tell - certainly in the shortest time - Citizens United was the last straw - or was it W - who decided to wage war for war's sake and then commit Americans to believe torture is acceptable - NO we are Not the greatest - once the country had a moral backbone - there was a commitment to our people, equity in pay - a hope to make our dreams possible - not any longer - it is no longer a democracy! This country is made only of selfish traitors who believe that "he with the most toys wins" - Perhaps the most evil game on this planet - also defines us most -- think Parker Bros. "Monopoly" -- that is our identity - and that is SICK!

OH! AND, we are number one in selling our moral values to the highest corporate bidder (sometimes not even the highest)!!!

Well the when Bush and the Republian/tea party are done with our country in the name of a President of color we will be the movies and the joke. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8UqdPKbpWM)

But we have have one thing that other countries don"t President Obama and we will remain the greatest in the world.

I watched this clip when it was part of the original broadcast and several times since then. It has risen to the level of "must see TV." Our country's values and priorities are wrong as the Newroom anchor says. What's worse he leaves out some items.

Good for placing this on. I'd seen it before, is an out take of a longer program. When this Country, and those who are sitting in positions to do good place the $ sign before their eyes instead of making policy for what is good for the majority of us and that includes our environment then we've lost our way. We allow ourselves to be ruled by Corporate take over whose only vision is the profit line, at all cost, no matter who it may affect in the long run, even if it means our own destruction.

America at one time was the greatest and the best, but as time went on and our country leaders have changed our country started it's down fall and to this day has not improved to much, but we can not lay the blame on just one person everyone has had a hand in it this is what's now known as greed and it sure seems to have a strong hold on things of late we as citizens need not lose hope one day we will rise to the top once again and become a much stronger nation we can not lose sight the grass needs to become greener on the other side of the fence one day.

Roosevelt tried to warn America in his farewell speech when he warned America to beware of the military /industrial alliance and then kennedy sacrificed his life to wake up America and today its more asleep than ever with the sheeples believing 911 and bombings such as Boston bombing is real and not a false flag dreamt up by the alliance to drag the world into another senseless war that feeds the profits of the alliance. And we have people on this forum making matters worse with their brainless calls to remove guns from the people so the alliance who was behind the shootings can fully take control with no opposition. Just look at Australia where we have more deaths from police shootings since we lost our guns and crime has been on the increase especially home invasions and the people have lost the right to defend themselves. Yes America your military/industrial alliance has our government do this so they could point it out to America as a model to look up to.
Wake America and the world before its too late as time is now fast running out. America had its chance to elect a true patriot in John Mccain but they let the media tell them how to think as they grabbed another beer while glued to the ballgame.

Someone had to say it --even if it was a fictional character on television. Although there are many great things about this country, including a rich history of which we can be proud, when the greedy started taking over our government --without a single concern about what they were doing to our environment, our economy, our future, those who need a helping hand, or anything other than themselves and their ability to make as much money as they possibly could-- our country stopped being the greatest country in the world. I love this country and I'm proud to be an American, but I'm not proud of the fact that our elected representatives are owned by large corporations and the fact that 99% of us, consisting to a greater extent of honest and hard-working individuals, are therefore controlled by the greediest and most selfish people on earth.

As sad as those words were, they were true. And that's why most of us are here every day.

Thank you for posting this, Sherri. As Robin Williams would say, "Reality. What a concept!"

It's called 'acting' but nonetheless was an interesting monologue all about how great the U.S. ISN'T...but then he blows it when he says..."We used to be!". So you aren't now, but you were? This is simply called patriotism. Every country has it. The U.S.has just always taken it to an extreme irrational point.
I think the U.S. DOES take the most psychiatric drugs of any nation on earth. That's an indicator of something.
It think it DOES lead every other country on earth as far as 'gun crazy' goes. That's another indicator of something.
You can only walk around going 'We're no. 1! We're no. 1!' so many times. As if saying something enough times makes it so. It doesn't.

Terrific Comments and sent stars to all. I too am proud of being American and I too trust that together we can turn this mess around. But we have to get money out of politics and we have to rein in corporations. Not an easy task when they have so many resources compared to mine. I am and always have been an optimist while planning solutions in the real world. We were asleep and bought the hype for awhile. When the Dixie Chicks were black listed and branded traitors to America because they openly said something against George W Bush we should have all screamed like hell. Those same voices think nothing of calling our President names and use the N word liberally. I don't agree with others some times but I defend to the death their right to say what they want. Americans are any and all citizens in this country independent of their nationality, color of their skin, religion or none, and yes rich and poor. Americans are NOT corporations and we must do everything possible to overturn the Supreme Court's decisions saying they have the same status as citizens. Thank you all for contributing all that you do. I know we do make a difference by working together.

When we stop thinking it is all about Republican or Democrat bad guys (while my guy is a saint) and that sick mindset, we may have a chance for regaining our standing. In every faied super state, the governments first went to a very few parties, then one, then some form of dictatorship then bust. We are so very close to the bust.

Thank you for posting this video.

"......there’s absolutely no evidence to support the statement that we’re the greatest country in the world. We’re seventh in literacy. Twenty-seventh in math. Twenty-second in science. Forty-ninth in life expectancy. A hundred and seventy-eighth in infant mortality. Third in median household income. Number four in labor force and number four in exports. We lead the world in only three categories: Number of incarcerated citizens per capita, number of adults who believe angels are real, and defense spending, where we spend more than the next twenty-six countries combined, twenty-five of whom are allies." Oh, and we rank #37 in health care...."

I love this piece - no longer can we live on our past glory. "We used to be the greatest country in the world... because we were informed." Not spoon fed lies by the media, politicians and lobbyists. It didn't matter which party we were because we all wanted the same things. Just maybe we need to go backward before we can go forward again...

The other day I was watching the US news on TV as the announcer prepared the world for over 4 major decisions in the US courts . These awaited decision included: the Arias murder case verdict, the Gosnell murder and medical ethics trial, the Boston bomber and accessories after the fact developments, the Benghazi whistle blowers testimonies. All this was breaking news and I thought - America what has happened to you?! Murder, terrorism, medical and governmental mismanagement and death. Can America regain its greatness, its hope and its positivity?

I will admit a lot of this is sadly true about what has happened to America. On the other hand, why the hell do millions want to live here?

I cheered when I watched that!

America is: Run by a shadow government and the MIC. It has destroyed our economy so they can have a soldier base that needs them to eat. It is arrogant and starts wars so a few can profit immensely. The right wing enables the shadow government with lies to its people.

Excellent video - to think about the same for all our countries would be a salutary lesson. Stars all over the place - thanks Sherri! Admitting that these things are true is the first step to putting them right - just a glance at history shows that things wax and wane in strength - there is hope!

Thank you Gina and your comment. I agree we all love this country. Pat, yes we all do need to be better informed and to quote someone else, "Freedom is not free." It takes all of us to make the change we need. Sherri

Well done, both by Jeff Daniels and by you Sherri for posting this. Some where along the way we forgot that we are not a TV show and that wars do not make a nation great or strong, just the biggest bully on the block.

We do just as politicians want, we quarrel among ourselves about non-issues and are left not knowing what the issues are.

Once, when Ben Franklin owned a press in Philadelphia, we were extremely well informed. We surrendered that long ago. We have more access to information at the touch of our fingers than at any other time in history and we squander that in favor of conspiracy theories and self aggrandizing blogs. We just can not be bothered with awesome responsibility of learning the facts when partisan opinion is so much more comfortable.

American can not be great when we have so many excuses for a poor education for our children, when we liking lemmings, follow the piper to the next war, forgetting the millions in our own country suffering without food or housing.

Beautifully said Kit couldn't send another star for 24 hours. I wonder everyday how much will we put up with before our eyes are open and we can see. Until then we do what we can. Have a good holiday week end.
