i see so many people blessed with big yards yet no garden. it used to be people acquired land as a means to support themselves. now it seems people acquire land as a status instead of making use of the wealth of food it could supply.

Thank you. I have created a few gardens in the past, from areas of lawn. Mulching helped.

Mushroom compost, that is the spent compost that mushrooms have been grown in, is really good for soil (I think that it is composted horse manure). In encourages worms into your garden, this can in turn attract moles but they are simply part of nature. If you have dogs try not to use cocoa mulch, it is bad for them; if you can invest in a garden shredder instead (maybe share it with your neighbours). When you prune in the spring use this as a mulch, it's free and it helps conserve water in the summer.

I'm gonna dig up my garden this afternoon, it is a 2 day project of heavy labor. There is something very satisfying about manual labour in your own garden, not to mention when you reap your rewards in the form of fresh natural veggies.

Mulch is best. Saving all your grass lawn clippings, leafs that are raked. does wonders. Most of all chemical free and nature made.

Happily, I already do all of these things, with the exception of the organic fertilizer. I haven't used fertilizer in years. My soil is so full of compost it doesn't need fertilizer.

organics and compost are the answers to all the soils problems. Then throw in some worms.
