The genetically altered bovine hormone is injected into cows, which results in diseased cattle and human health concerns. Understand how this was allowed to happen.

Maybe that is why our family dairy farm went out of business in the 80's We never added hormones or injected antibiotics unless the animal really was sick.

FYI for Gabriela: If you live in Monsanto "territories" and supplement soy for your protein you are consuming GMO food. Unfortunately, Monsanto also thought about the vegan market. If you reside in USA corn and soy are listed categorized as pesticides.

Glad I'm vegan and I don't live in America, in Australia any GM foods must be labelled and I don't eat them. Cheers Deb.

Noted! We were never intended to drink cows milk in the first place as it was designed for calves of mother cows. Cows milk naturally contains a chemical ingredient called casein which can not be broken down within the human body, thus the many complaints of sever cramping one gets after ingesting it. Now, with this new information perhaps God is sending us a stronger message to quit the milk and meat eating all together!

Thank you Deb for another informative article. I sign everything against Monsanto - and drats, I think I deleted it because it was nauseating. A whitehouse petion response regarding GMO labeling. We're screwed. The jist - pro Monsanto from the adminstration, but they'll consider the issue of labeling. AGHHHH! Just the fact that they would not be willing to disclose is incriminating. Too early to rant on....I am just so grateful for all the info I can get here. Sorry much of America is clueless - which also scews us.

For those interested in understanding the difference between processed, chemically treated milk and raw, natural milk visit: Where Can I Find Real Raw Milk and Raw Milk FAQ. You will be shocked at the differences and marvel at the health benefits. I hope all find this information useful.

I'm going to be thinking about blood, pus and antibiotics every time I pour my grandchildren a glass of milk! Unfortunately, there's little else they like to drink. Was not surprised to learn that Fox News killed the Monsanto milk story. It's simply a case of one dirty hand washing another.

Thanks, Deb, for a great article. This information is VERY important. I'm going to look into alternatives to contaminated milk.

I signed the petitions linked to this story. In case you're not aware of it, the first two were replaced with a warning that was very strange and very suspicious. You might want to look into it.

Signed. I've been turned on to almond milk and will never go back to cow's or goat milk. I have to quinch everytime I see a parent buy cow's milk for their kids in the grocery stores. I think about the harm they are doing to their kids health and that they need to be educated. Doctors are a great place to start the education process. I don't think any one should be allowed to be a medical Doctor without at least a year studying nutrition.

rBGH is legal only in USA and 21 other countries, most of them in South and Central America - EU has banned not only the use of rBGH in cows, but also the import of rBGH dairy products. Also the Codex Alimentarius Commission has refused to approve rBST as safe - it doesn't have any authority to ban or approve products, but its decisions are regarded as a standard. EU first put a moratorium on the use of rGBH and then banned it completely in 2000 mostly because of animal welfare concerns - I've read the official 'Report on Animal Welfare Aspects of the Use of Bovine Somatotrophin' by the Scientific Committee on Animal Health and Animal Welfare (http://ec.europa.eu/food/fs/sc/scah/out21_en.pdf) and it's quite chilling. Clinical mastitis, foot disorders, cardiovascular disorders, reproductive problems... and there are studies indicating negative health effects on humans as well, mostly linked to increased levels of IGF-1. For an introduction to these, I recommend 'Report on Public Health Aspects of the Use of Bovine Somatotrophin' by The Scientific Committee on Veterinary Measures relating to Public Health (EU) (http://ec.europa.eu/food/fs/sc/scv/out19_en.html).

While antibiotic and hormone injections in cows are a significant problem, both for the animals and for the consumers, a problem that receives much less attention is corn-feeding. The majority of cattle in the US receive corn-feed to help them pack on weight; but cattle are not evolved to digest corn. The result is a much sicker animal that needs more antibiotics just to keep it alive. Grass-fed means a healthier animal, and much healthier beef for the consumer. Choose to purchase from ranchers that keep their animals grass-fed, antibiotic-free, and hormone-free. Know who grows your meat.

Stop the reliance on meat, which results in the destruction of land and water supplies. If you can't be vegetarian then make meat a less often eaten food at your dinner table.
