Unusually public step, StandardOil-empire dynasty've set out 4 shareholder resolutions calling for an independent chairman; a taskforce to study global warming; reduction in Exxon's gas emissions; & renewable energy policy. 85% clan members support change

Realy unusual step should EXXON be as green as BP and Shell or what is the problem? Exxon will never be green it will be dead before that day! Let new companies go for green energy! There will be new green energy sources! Not from Exxon....

Of course, Exxon isn't green, but I thought the concerted action of the Rockefeller clan might be more than just a publicity bid.

I think its just a good cop bad cop game within the EXXON Clan!
This is just a cheap trick! Exxon is the worst of all oil companies and that will not change unless the market will change it! People have the power to tell EXXON how to behave and save the environment! Solar Energy powered by Exxon Mobil no thanks! Let the green revolution come from people who realy care they will create many new jobs real green jobs!

ExxonMobile released their fist quarter profit and they earned $10.4 billion. With profits this high in the beginning of the first quarter I serioiusly doubt gas at the pump is going to come down any time soon.

Hillary Clinton said she wants the oil company's to pay the taxes at the pump but she has no authority to make this happen. If the oil company's are forced to pay the federal taxes then the price at the pump will go higher to offset the tax. It's no win situation, and it will fail. Clinton is pandering to win the nomination. I hope she loses Indiana. If she does then it's over for her...

Yeah, right on, Stephen, let's hope for an Indiana victory for Barack !
But don't you think the Rev Wright controversy is going to cost him votes and help Clinton ?

So, it'll take more - a lot more- than the Rockefeller clan resolutions for Exxon Mobile to clean up its act.

I regret having posted anything positive about the Rockefellers, for if they are doing something now, they failed to act in many cases, particularly human rights abuses that should have been addressed, if we are to consider them shareholders with social responsibility and a conscience.

Hans' remarks led me to do a little research and I've discovered this site :

The Stop ExxonMobil Alliance is an unprecedented effort between environmental, human rights and pro-democracy groups to address ExxonMobil's unchecked corporate abuses.
Alliance members include Greenpeace, Amnesty, International Labor Rights Fund...
http://www.stopexxonmobil.org/
(I couldn't find any documents on the site more recent than 2005, however)

A damning human rights record:

HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES

ExxonMobil must develop and adopt a verifiable, comprehensive and explicit human rights policy to guide its global operations, with an explicit commitment to support and uphold the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Even by oil company standards, ExxonMobil's human rights record is appalling. Villagers living around the company's natural gas operations in Aceh, Indonesia, are suing ExxonMobil for complicity in killings, torture and other severe human rights violations perpetrated by the Indonesian military guarding the company's facilities. In Chad and Cameroon, citizen opposition to the environmental and social consequences of ExxonMobil's Chad-Cameroon oil pipeline has been met with brutal government suppression. In Colombia, an entire village was forcibly relocated last year to make way for the expansion of South America's largest open pit coal mine, majority owned by ExxonMobil's wholly owned subsidiary Intercor. ExxonMobil then sold Intercor to its minority owners. And when Exxon merged with Mobil in 1999, it became the first U.S. employer ever to rescind a non-discrimination policy covering sexual orientation.

Greenpeace has a whole site devoted to ExxonMobile, called ExxonSecrets, which is an on-going project, fully up to date :

http://www.greenpeace.org/usa/campaigns/global-warming-and-energy/exxon-secrets

ExxonSecrets is a Greenpeace research project highlighting the more than a decade-long campaign by Exxon-funded front groups - and the scientists they work with - to deny the urgency of the scientific consensus on global warming and delay action to fix the problem. For more information see our FAQ.

The database compiles Exxon Foundation and corporate funding to a series of institutions who have worked to undermine solutions to global warming and climate change. It details the working relationships of individuals associated with these organizations and their global warming quotes and deeds.

Mea culpa, Hans, maxima mea culpa !

I should make mistakes more often, if correcting them leads to declarations of love. That's great ! I am loved ! I am appreciated ! I am happy. Thank you, Hans.
