I assume Team Obama will eventually tout this as a good thing for our economy.

Probably will take credit for it. Howver I find sex selection horrible!

To bad (or maybe the clinics refused to give numbers) the article was reasonably incomplete.

Absolutely disgusted with the idea of custom-made children. Those involved probably shouldn't have children at all ... what if the sex of choice doesn't measure up to expectations as time goes on ... or has any sort of disability? Anything less than perfect doesn't seem to have much of a chance does it?

Thanks to free enterprise, these rich people can have this done. It doesn't apply to the rest of us. Did Obama force Congress to make it legal to do this? No. Consider the source, the National Review, a Repug rag. Honestly, many more important things than this.

I don't see where the slam towards the President fits in with the subject matter at all. For some people, any excuse for some Obama bashing will do. (No surprise coming from the National Review). The people who could afford such an atrocious procedure sound more like compatriots' of Romney's to me.

I confess I really wanted a girl (and that is what I got) when I was pregnant but in the end babies are babies and come out how they are supposed to. al this messing around with fertility and designer babies is wrong, wrong, wrong. Rich people should just get over it and raise the baby who comes out. possibly they shouldn't even be having children.

What does the comment presenting the article "I assume Obama will tout this a good thing for economy" have anything to do with this article? He wasn't even mentioned it it! Yes you are correct: You ASS-ume.
Wow, such is the Republican paranoia that all things bad must be blamed on Obama. I

Goodness. This contradicts the laws of nature. It does not matter if it's a boy or girl, as the conception of a new human being is sacred, it is a blessing from the Creator.

Agreed the article does not articulate and is incomplete.
No president nor political figure is part of our scientific development as humans. The pure fact that this is achievable today is a miracle in it self. I can't believe mothers, women and men place such judgement on someone who they have no idea of where they come form. We have no place judging anyone for their reproductive decisions. If you don't believe in it then don't do it! Its not only rich people who make a decision to select a child sex. Most of the time its to balance out a family when there are already too many of one. Women who have dreamed of having a boy and a girl or two girls or two boys or what ever number and combination is now achievable. I see this as a positive possibility to especially those who are trying to achieve pregnancy.
Be amazing!

Paula, you lie or are too ignorant, intentially or other wise. Your source, 'WORLD/ Today's news/Christian views', is a Christian Taliban of America propaganda rag that opposes all forms of contraception, all abortion without exceptions, religious freedom for only those who believe as they do, wants religious exemptions for bullying- it is a Christian Right to bully to suicide Gays and unbelievers, opposed Equal pay for Equal work and the Violence Against Women Act. Aside from that IT WAS THE REPUG/TEA BAGGED CONTROLLED US HOUSE THAT KILLED THE BILL THAT WOULD HAVE BANNED SEX SELECTIVE ABORTIONS. And they damn well should have as it was written to place the legal burden of proof that the abortion was not sex selection on the woman and made all doctors criminally liable for performing a sex selective abortion. It was nothing but a damn end run around around Roe v Wade.
The world article is based on a single doctor, Dr. Steinberg owner of Fertility Institutes in New York and Los Angeles, who bragged that he has done "thousands" of procedures for couples from 147 countries, that is about 10 VERY RICH couples from each country over the entire history of the clinics not a single year. You and the article imply that all or a majority of these are abortions, which is a lie most are IVF/PGD, where only fertilized eggs of the desired sex are implanted or induced miscarriagess for embryos to undeveloped for an abortion. So as usual the RICH get the optionsl, they can now AFFORD to change countriess to have a child of the sex they desire, and the RICH have always been able to afford to offshore their abortions in the US and else where. Wake up, even the Hyde Amendment ban on the use of Federal monies for abortions only applies to some people, every member of the US House and Senate have in their Government subsidized health care exchanges plan choices that include abortion on demand coverage options.

What are you talking about, Lloyd H? Republicans proposed the bill to ban gender selective abortions and the great majority of Republicans voted for the bill. It was defeated primarily by Democratic votes. You may also recall that Care2 wrote articles arguing against the ban (saying, as I recall, that it couldn't be enforced - apparently the countries from which these "abortion tourists" come have somehow surmounted that problem).

Silly people - NATURE decides the sex of a baby - not man. Nature keeps the balance.

This seems like such a scary concept. I would prefer the anticipation of waiting to see whether or not I get a boy or girl anyway.

People with this attitude should be sterilised. They certainly doesn't deserve the blessing of a child
