Gee, I wonder if those idiots in government learned anything from October 1929?

Nah, doesn't look like it. The responses look too much like CCC, New Deal, and other mistakes...

Since when was the New Deal considered a mistake??

The New Deal recovery could have been faster and wider had FDR not insisted, initially, on balancing the budget and, therefore, primed the economic pump less than the situation required, especially early in his first term. (There were other factors, too: an obstructionist Supreme Court initially, followed by Congressional gridlock in his second term.) World War II proved that, by taking the lid off government spending, modernizing industry, creating full employment - even jobs for women - and launching the longest sustained period of prosperity in U.S. history. Some mistake!

Besides reading a good, post-Friedman economic history of the Great Depression (any one of them will do), looks like someone needs to read the article accompanying this thread: It's austerity, no pump priming, that's causing this havoc in the Euro Market countries, and will cause it here if the GOP has its way.

Which isn't to say much the same isn't happening here now, too, thanks to the GOP class war and Obama's distinctly un-Rooseveltian timidity:

Sorry it's cut and paste rather than live link. Life is tough, even without being driven to murder, suicide and/or financial ruin.
