Quoting from the article: "Nigar had been raped and impregnated by one of her brothers. She was protected along with her child by the Directorate to Investigate Violence against Women for six months after giving birth. Nigar and her brother were arrested at the beginning of this year; the brother was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment while Nigar was released on bail according to the police in Garmian where the case was dealt with. She was then under the protection of the Directorate.

"After six months, another brother of Nigar entered a negotiation with the police and signed a document promising not to harm her. The police handed her over to the family on the 12th of June, but she was killed by that other brother on the 20th of July...

"In Kurdistan where, on a daily basis, women are killed, degraded, or forced to commit suicide through self-immolation, even young girls’ lives are not safe. For the last 20 years the Kurdistan Regional Government have turned a blind eye to the plight of women, to the point where the situation is now almost out of control. Despite the anger and protest by activists and organisations opposed to this situation, the killing and violence against women continue."

Horrible! Why are the Western feminists so silent on the terrible abuse of women under Islam's rule? They only seem to care about victims if they are white and/or non-Muslim, but they'd rather turn a blind eye to the suffering of Muslim women than to offend this primitive tribal ideology that harms and oppresses them. Disgusting.

I read the stories in floods of tears .. beautiful young woman, killed for having been raped ..

We the undersigned therefore demand:

1- The head of the Directorate and the persons who were involved in handing Nigar over to her family must be investigated.

2- Stop handing over women and girls whose lives are in risk merely through signing a document with no legal consequences, as this gives families a free hand to kill female members.

3- A clear and transparent investigation must be made into this case, with the results to be made public.

4- Declare rape to be a crime and abolish all punishment for the victim.

5- Provide protection, medical care, and social help to victims of rape so that they will be able to rebuild their lives.

Thank you for the article. I hope honor killing is banned worldwide.

"Banning" is one thing....but, like female genital mutilation, actually eliminating it will be close to impossible.

Muslim societies value their "honor"....and women are just "things" upon whom punishment can be performed at the will of men. Rather than point out the DISHONOR of someone who rapes a woman....SHE becomes the dupe--the stooge--the "goat."

I wish them well in their campaign but am not optimistic about a successful outcome in this male dominated society. You could add just about any Islamic country where this evil practice is still going on.
Pakistan would be the worst.

Thank you Rose...Can we get a petition going to help... My heart is breaking that life has to be so brutal for these young women...They are just like our own daughters and granddaughters..... I'd NEVER allow any one to harm my child... and here these women are so helpless in this horrific situation of extremism at it's ugliest.

Honor killing is not inclusive to Islamic countries. It is known all over the world in a way or the other. It is not justified in Islam. Killing is killing.Death is the penalty for rapists in Islam and the rapist,as mentioned in the article, was prisoned for 20 years by a court.

Thanks Alexandra for your suggestions.A green star on its way to you.Can you adopt a petition in this regard.I'll be the first to sign. Thanks Rose for the post.

My heart hurst for Nigar, a little girl who will never grow up. Men in these countries must stop using honor-killing to justify their own mental problems about what is "right".

Another slimy case of diversion and irresponsible bafflegab Abdessalam; are in denial sir ... and your defense of islam ..if expected full of one of either ignorance, wilfull deciet , or just the meanderings of lawyers on the take... so much horror, dishonour; is justified by islam as to make your arguement pathetic if not laughably nauseous.

Hello Bob A.
Apparently you didn't read my comment.I condemned honor killing when I stated that " killing is killing ". I also said that it " is not justified in Islam". I mentioned too that "Death is the penalty for rapists in Islam ". So if you can't read well, then use reading glasses. If you are infected with Islamophobia, then see a psychiatric.

Yo Abd...."honour killing is a staple ethos in islam"..pride being a conerstone ...along with denial, lying, festering resentment from the adamic fall of woman... slaughter, control, manipulations, manic victim persecution complex, these and more under the black flag of ultimate rejection of the Lamb of God.
What fellowship hath Light to do with darkness... as this darkness will surely be the destiny of liars.
1 jOHN 2:22,23....READ IT ABD... and remember then that His Blood was shed for YOU too.... Glory to the Lamb of God...He is Lord.

Read this Abd....
1 john 2: 22, 23.
Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son.
23./Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father either; he who acknowledges the Son has the Father also....
His Blood was shed for you Abd ..
