If anybody wanted to know the kind of people who become teachers, they need only read of the bravery of the staff at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

As a teacher reading these stories, I found them to be incredible stories of what it means to be human. The fact that these were teachers is almost beside the point. Please, this is not to belittle what they did. On Sept.11th, we heard of dozens of people who saved others when they in fact died in the process.
The human instinct to preserve life kicks in at moments of danger. How many stories have you read about a person pushing another out of the way of a speeding car, only to be killed.
Bless these people who saved dozens, and rest in peace to those who gave their lives.

As tragic and shocking as this loss may be, I shudder to consider what the consequences might have been, had not these brave teachers and school staff been so well-prepared. They had drills and practiced emergency lock down procedures - obviously aware that in this day and age, no city or town is safe from such outbursts. And yet they chose to be teachers...and some chose to give their lives.

I hope those who bash the teachers will read this and other stories of how much a Teacher puts on the line to be educating our youth. Taking away their right to bargain, freezing their wages, wanting them to pay more and more towards their health care, and just the negative over all talk by those who protect the CEO's and Corporations from paying a dollar more in taxes while expecting these teachers to live on less and less.

Let this be a reminder when you read or hear someone bashing the Teachers you need to speak out on it. These teachers have in their care the most precious of your life, your children. They are EVERYTHING to your children during the hours they are in the teachers classroom, they not only teach your children but protect them as well. In this article even played the role of a parent, telling the children they loved them, just in case those were the last of the words they would hear.

If anyone would like to sign this petition for this heroic teacher:
AWARD THE MEDAL OF FREEDOM TO VICTORIA SOTO
