This is sick. Not only the sickos marrying the children, but the parents of these children, what is wrong with them. I can think of a way the chemical weapons in Syria could be put to good use. Good for that little girl speaking out!

Disgusting. I understand arranged married is part of their culture and that it is common practice for girls to be married at a much younger age than here in the USA. If the girl was at least of post-pubescent age I would hold my tongue as I don't feel it is my place to condone or condemn these practices in a culture which I am not a part of or even familiar with. However eight years old is still a child any way you look at it, and simply cannot be justified.

Sickening! Children that young should not be getting married. They should be enjoying their childhoods.

That poor child. I cannot imagine what she suffered at the hands of a grown man. I hope the activists can truly change people's attitudes that this is simply not right on so many levels.

Without the benefit of education this atrocity to the young women of our world is difficult to stop. Of course, developing compassion is a component, but, to open one's mind to the harmful effects of this behavior is also an education. Thousands of years of cultural norms are not changed in a day. What is an atrocity in one culture, may be interpreted as 'life as usual' in another. For some cultures, suffering, injustice, inequality, early death, are just milestones in life which must be endured during this lifetime. Our hearts are turn apart to know of these horrendous occurrences, yet, the real change will be made from within the society itself, and outside interference must be very carefully orchestrated so as not to induce outrage upon another. Human beings seek personal power. If it is judged to be taken away, the response is likely to be anger in the form of violence and retribution towards those who are innocent. This would be lead to further harm. Our laws are not their laws.

How to save these girls???

Malala Day - a worldwide act of improving the education of humanity, and especially the empowerment of its women, is a major step towards new cultures and societies that no longer tolerate this inhumanity to humanity.

Women are no longer chattel in our culture. This legislation is not acknowledged throughout the world. If women are educated, (and some males are not in favor of this, of course), then no woman in her 'right mind' could ever allow her daughters such torture and demeaning circumstances to prevail in a developed civilization.

I pray for these pitiful girls! I pray for our world to see a better way to live, to form relationships, to build a world that we all would appreciate participating in together.

Women are entitled to this world as much as men.
At least through the Internet we can speak out against such crimes against women's freedoms and torture.

It is a first step.

ANGRY MAN, please do not compare human beings as sick as this one to animals. Animals do not do this kind of thing to their own kind. The man in this instance is a part of a society which has sunk as low as you can get to be willing to marry and copulate with, a mere child. He is a subhuman monster--a murderer. Nothing on earth is more despicable than a sick, callous human of this nature. .

Eight year old girls should be playing bride, not being one. (If they want to).

Linda eduarte, this is what humans do. There is nothing un-human about this. This is one fo the abominations that our species is responsible for.

Tradition be damned, no child should be married that young or ever if they don't wan to be.

Are these people lacking totally, in intelligence and a moral base?
What mother wants to sell off her daughter, at any age? Her greed and lack of loving her children is most disturbing.
What man wants to marry an 11 year old, in the first place? We call that pedophilia, which is disgusting in the first place, but especially, when you consider that the people as a whole, condone it

These people are far behind on the evolutionary scale, and are too dumb to know it.

This is really so sick. Sometimes I wonder if it is just the men that are so insecure that they need to have full control of a child to feel like a man. No one should be having sex with little children like that.

I thought the safety of children was supposed to come under international UN law somewhere. This is not marriage, it is rape by paedophiles.

Now we know pedophilia is alive and flourishing in Yemen...maybe Obama was right in bombing there - he just picked the wrong targets. When officials repeal a law against this because it is anti-Islamic that tells me Islam is made for pedphiles.

This is legalised pedophelia ...only a pedophile would dream of having sex with a child... normal men would be horrified if that was "offered " to them....Must stop.

Lee,

I am back with only a few articles from reputable journalists, you too can search Google also, there are a plethora of reports...

ABC News "Exposing America's Ugly Sex Secret"
Dateline NBC "Children For Sale" Chris Hanson
Dateline NBC video "American Tourist Dr. Jerry Albom"
Dateline NBC "Confrontation" Chris Hanson Dr. Jerry Albom
"Human Trafficking One Town In Thailand"
ABC News "Southeast Asia Haven For Pedophiles"

You can also seek out an article regarding the US now punishing Americans for sex crimes in Southeast Asia but personally I am sick to my stomach...your time to investigate, stories are endless....

I posted my reply above thinking this post was the article from 13 hours ago. I unknowingly posted it on the original article posted two (2) days ago...

On another note to those posting here:

Why are you people thinking this happens "there" and not "here"?
Where do you live, under a rock?
Child Trafficking in America is a HUGE American business for goodness sakes!
Just Google "American Child Sex Trafficking" and you'll slit your own throat.
The saying "The Pot Calling The Kettle Black" applies here.

Yes Bette Ann but the point is not only the sex crimes Being allowed an 8year old bride is part of the core of the article Our sex offenders are treated as criminals as are the preophiles in the USA we do not celebrate the massacre at a wedding ceremony. The majority of people are horrified at the idea of an old man marrying a baby girl and being allowed to sexually assault her
I think you are missing the point and jumping in to defend Yemen practices much too quickly
Most of your points are irrelevant
