Daulatdia is Bangladesh's largest brothel-village, and while most of the sex workers know they will never leave, some are taking action to ensure their children don't suffer the same fate, writes Christine Jackman.

So disheartening. Prayers being said for these young girls & their families. Praises to Save the Children & others who help. Thanks, Rose, for sharing this.

How very sad in all respects. How sad that men feel it is acceptable to pay for sex, to exploit young girls, all across the board. Hopefully some good will come out of all this.

No change in these horrible conditions will take place without public outrage. Thank you for reminding us of the horrors to which these women and children are subject on a daily basis.

Until a cultural and moral change takes place within these third world countries nothing will change. I knew better than to read this post because every time I hear such things I become enraged. Am absolutely sick to my stomach...will also pray for the brave women trying to help these women and children. Education would seem to be the key and a hot knife wouldn't hurt...

The part that is shocking to me is where it is said they are shocked to be asked their feelings about this because it is so common, some have accepted this as their fate. unbelievable.

One of my university students told me that his mom is a sex worker. I told him to graduate as soon as he could so his mom can quit her work. When I was in BKK I used to teach English for sex workers for free of charge. Girls in developing countries have got less chance to study, without skills, therefore, often end up sex workers. They offer their service though, nothing to do with their dignity. They are equally humans as you and I. Tragic, yes, I hope I can do something to end it.

Thanks Rose

Wow, this is so horrible for the women, and of course their children. I just got Sultana's Dream from my library. I don't know what to say other than I pray these women find escape and refuge. Noted and thanks.
