Female feticide is going on in a lot of places in the Islamic world as well, although Muslims routinely just kidnap Christians, Hindus, Sikhs, force them to convert and marry, so bride-buying is a virtual step-up from this horror. Regardless, women need rights not just lip service.

If women ran the world instead of men it would be different and-sorry men-a probably more peaceful one. We wouldn't be killing boys and doing the things that men do to girls. Sure, we're not perfect but you all haven't done such great job in the past many thousands of years. Wars are started for power and the seizing of other people's homes and maybe I'm wrong but I don't think this would happen-or at lest not so much if women were in power. Killing babies because they re the wrong gender and marrying of children to grown men? Wow, misogyny seems to be going well in India, or at least for the men it is working.

Thank you, Rose, for putting up this long overdue petition. It's high time that these horrendous issues start geting the attention it deserves. May I ad a few information in the hope that more readers are inclined not only to sign but to speak out about this issue.

(From a comment of mine in another Care2 Forum, March 28, 2014):

“Crime statistics and a Gender Scorecard compiled by women's rights activists have put chilling new perspective on an age-old social ill in India: Bride-burning and other "dowry crimes" take the life of a woman every hour.

Despite a rapidly expanding middle class, enviable economic growth and measurable strides in modernization since India's 1947 independence, dowry deaths continue to rise year on year, as does the related plague of "cruelty by husband and relatives" -- the crime defined as torture committed against women in pursuit of more marriage bounty from their parents.

India's National Crime Records Bureau last week reported that 8,233 Indian women were killed in 2012 in dowry-related violence, or nearly one per hour. The incidence of dowry deaths grew by nearly 3% over the previous five years, and torture at the hands of a husband or family increased by 5.4%, with 99,135 cases reported by survivors in 2011.

The scope of the problems is likely to be wider than the statistics suggest, as many women and their parents are reluctant to seek prosecution for fear of scandal that would destroy their other daughters' chances of getting married, analysts say.”

If you feel like reading more details check the “Gender Scorecard 2013” by the Delhi Policy Group ( It reveals a shocking picture with respect to femicide/gendercide and violence against women vetted out by husbands and family members. Pay attention to the ratio health care:women. Scary.

“Equally significantly, the incidence of cruelty by husbands and relatives has also increased year by year, accounting for as much as 43.6% of crimes against women in 2012. It appears that the vast majority of violent crimes against women are committed by their families”.

The other shocking side is documented here "Gendercide in India"

China is not far behind India when it comes to feticide. The whole male? Mentality of having a son to carry on the family name and the rest of the rubbish that men use to justify having a son versus a daughter is tragic worldwide. The ultimately irony is that in most cases it is the DAUGHTER who takes care of the elderly parents.
