My ideas of 'Ideal' cars: Vehicles like the Tucker, Edsel, or Packard updated with fuel systems getting in excess of 75 miles to the gallon. JRFish carburettor and Bosch K-jetronic or Lake high pressure fuel injection are candidates.
Baker Electrics running advanced nickel-iron batteries that are both light, long on charge, and easy on the environment while being affordable.
Hybrid electric vehicles based on the Mother Earth News designs that beat 100 miles per gallon and are actually worth owning and driving. Nickel iron batteries would be preferred as they have fewer toxicv components than other designs of rechargeable batteries.
