Better than a threat of jail: The threat of witchcraft has scared looters into returning goods they stole during unrest which followed last month's disputed Kenyan elections

The BBC's Odhiambo Joseph in Mombasa says people turned to witchcraft when they realised the police were powerless to prevent their livelihoods being destroyed.

Michael, we had a similar "thing" happen here some years back. Non Aboriginal people were helping themselves to the "bouncing stones", which were part of Aboriginal folklore. Well, eventually, a call was sent out asking all these 'good folk" to return the stones and for those that didn't, a 'curse" would be enacted the stones wanting to come home and still in their possession. A few were returned, but after the curse was enacted, many more were sent back.

Well you know I'm thinking if we get all these witchdoctors together and show them the need who knows. Wouldn't it be fun watching them try to give everything back?

This article is good Michael, but I wonder how long it is before these thugs decide to go on witchhunts to rid themselves of the witchcraft? The possibilities of more bloodshed are too great to imagine, all in the name of God mind you!

Thanks Kim. :) Over here though there is a lot of bloodshed being spiiled ; away from the cameras anyway (not advocating more though).
I thought it important to show the irony displayed. The people of Kenya are largely "Chrisitan" in their beliefs supposedly. Showing how close they really are to tribal policies might help to explain how this "blow up" occurred so quickly maybe.

Well Michael W., the people here are largely "Christian" also (at least they claim to be), but I would love to see a curse put on and watch what happens. And Michael Sandstrom, as far as this administration goes, I 'd like to have a curse put on them and see if THEY can be taken back.

Thank you Michael W.
