Congress Should Work a Five Day Week Pettion!!

Our elected officials in Washington work only three or four days and spend the rest of the time fundraising. It is time for them to work at least five days a week like those they govern.

Yes!! Thanks for this Robert. Definitely signed. When we continually hear about them skipping out on important briefings (like the NSA briefing this past Thursday where less than half the Senate showed up), it should make us voters angry. They are not giving us the service we are paying for. What a useless bunch of slouches!

Our congressmen and women should work 5 days a week. Or, maybe better yet, since they won't get any more done in a five day workweek, they should take a paycut.

Well I don't know Robert I have mixed emotions on this one. Look at the mess they have gotten us into by hardly working, I hate to think what they will do with more time to F things up in.

Yes, I signed, maybe they might like to know what if feels like to at least be there even if they don't do anything positive or screw us over some more.

What if Congress had to work a five day week, could only have 3-5 paid staff members, absolutely no contact with a lobby for any reason, and were judged on the merits of their work, not the numbers of words in their rhetoric?

Oh yeah, that's the rest of us, not for those we pay to speak in our name.

Signed and tweeted.

Agreed. If most of the tax paying Americans who pay their bloated salaries by the way, have to work 5 days a week in order to barely survive Congress should have to put in a full week as well...and then some.
Signed. Thanks!

Congress (opposite of progress) should work a 40 hour week or work part time for no pay. Same goes for the rest of the perverts in government.

It's about time they earned their pay by doing the job they were elected to do. They get enough perks and take advantage of the voters all the time. They should work at least 5 days a week. We have to and you can be assured we don't get any damn perks. If they don't feel they can work 5 days a week, they shouldn't run, oh sorry forgot the money they get beyond salary. I can't find a job, my husband works 40 hours a week and we have to pray we have retirement money. Let's make these bozo's earn their money and work for us not who can pay the best to get them to listen to them, whether it's what the voter wants or not.

Congress always says,"The American want this or that,,,the American people are tired of this or that".....We now have given them something we really said...."Work a 5-day week.....under a time schedule for your work to be done." Let's see if they share this MANDATE with the American people........

Oh, yeah! Definitely signed. Noted. Many thanks for posting, Robert!
There were also nearly 30 members from the House who stated they would live off the equivalent of food stamps for a few solidarity with constituents. Too bad ALL of Congress didn't do this. They should all try living with no health care for a time, and give up some of their other perks.

Signed * Yes even better they need to give up some of the Big Pay if they can't do their job!
Maybe they should be paid by the hr like everyone else that elected them.
Thank You

There are so many things that need to be done for our Country and all Congress worries about is their paychecks and working less hours as possible, my spouse works 12-14 hours a day 5-6 days a week and is on salary so no overtime pay.

In order for Congress to get their work done they should work at least 5 days a week, and if major issues come up, stay there until resolved, and forget summers off, that's a bunch of crap. Time to earn you pay. They also need to let go some of the perks, like taking Obamacare along with the rest of us, and they need to pay their way. Times are tough and it time for them to give up the perks, in this day and age it just not something that is done anymore. We all made sacrifices its time the upper class make them.

I am just sick of them all, if they don't want to work like the rest of the Country, its time for them to step down. Most of them have been there to long, it time for fresh ideas and new faces.

Five-day week or three-day week, I wouldn't care as much if you'd just DO YOUR JOBS and quit wasting my taxpayer dollars by: 1. Filibustering. 2. Taking "Repeal Obamacare" votes you know will never pass. 3. Defending DOMA. 4. Filibustering. 5. Filibustering. 6. Filibustering. 7. Lying about how much you've done and what you’ve voted on (Prime example: The watered-down House version of the Violence Against Women Act that you voted on just before the Senate version, just so you could say you voted FOR it, when in reality you voted AGAINST the one that finally got passed.) 8. Taking one week off for every two you “work.” And finally, 9. Filibustering filibustering filibustering.

And some think it's a Lifetime Job once they are in!!!
Don't we wish we had that!!
When I saw one had been in for 57 years and there are others too! Wow!
I am not saying that some have not done a good job but isn't this just too long to have this position being a Lifetime??
What a Luxurious job to go to all your life!
They should be limited yrs. step down and others move in that spot??
Raises ** They should not Vote theirself Raises! We don't do we???
And they should have the same Healthcare as us! Did they want to Vote this for theirself??
Pay for their own or use ObamaCare or pay taxes!! Same as the people that has put them in office!
They wear the same pants as you do "Two Legs in"!!
Thank you

As soon as Republicans took control of the House, they gave themselves a $5,000 raise and voted to work every other week. What kind of idiots put this kind of lunatics in power anyway? We need to fight back and fight back hard at the Polls while we still have the right to vote. They are drunk on power and that is all they care about. We could drop dead of starvation with all the children, and they would be perfectly happy. They hate the citizens and the government. Geez, you idiots who put them in there, educate yourselves as to what you have helped to do to this country. The lunatics you put in there affect us all.

Noted and signed. Thanks, Robert. Those who still believe our Congress is working for the people aren't paying attention. As far as I'm concerned, the Republicans are still against anything the Democrats want to do, and the Democrats are becoming more and more confused. What a mess.

@ Barbara K - "You cannot currently send Barbara K a star" - What you said is so true. I would like to see them work like the rest of the country. Too many vacations that they use to garner votes. In my opinion there are too many newbies in Congress who were voted in by the Tea Party who didn't do their homework so we've ended up with many of them only interested in overturning Roe-v-Wade and shoving their Christian beliefs down everyones throat. Too radical and too arogant to even consider what they should be doing. They work for all of us and should be trying to better our country not filabuster everything so they can prove they don't like Pres Obama or spend their time voting 37 times to overturn Obamacare. Those are the ones who should be run out of office. I'll take the old guard who at least got things done, too many newbies are there for the wrong reasons.

Petition signed.

Congress needs to get to work in a 40 hour week like the rest of us.

Base pay for congresscritters is: $174,000.00 per year.

Facts you may or may not know:

Each time congress votes on overturning "Obamacare" costs the taxpayers over a million dollars. They have done this 37+ times. What a waste of time and money.

Ty, Robert.

Signed and shared. These people kissed babies and fought for the honor of representing their constituents. They should definitely work a 5-day week, and since they wanted the position so bad it shouldn't be a hardship to work 60 hours a week. Let them earn the money they are given, just like us. And give them the same health benefits as any other government worker. And by work I mean actually getting things DONE!!! No more playing around wasting money. Every one of these knuckleheads should receive routine evaluations, too, just like we do with our employers. Any time off should come from a reserve they have earned, just like other government workers. Maybe they should even have to clock in and out. They take tremendous advantage of the positions they were voted into. These people need to learn about responsibility, fairness, decency, commitment, morality, etc. They have gotten away with far too much for far too long!!! Do they want the job or not!? If so, let them actually do the job like it is actually a real working job!
