A short video where the executive director thanks the 500,000 members who have supported and signed petitions in 2012 and lists all the very considerable wins for protection of spaces and species in the U.S.

The Karner Blue butterfly that was saved by the Center for Biological Diversity in the U.S. (not a bad looking butterfly).
The Center for Biological Diversity sues the pants off of any gov't. dept. in the U.S. to protect species and their habitats from the wolf to the fat mucket (yes, the fat mucket---google it to find out what that is lol).

Oops, they didn't save the Karner Blue butterfly as pictured above, it was the Miami Blue Butterfly. The Karner Blue is an endangered butterfly in my home province of Ontario, Canada, and the Miami Blue butterfly is critically endangered in Florida. My apologies.

There's another reason not to like the NRA (and guns and the 'sport' of hunting)---14,000 TONS of lead shot into the environment each year killing 20 million mammals and birds just from the poisonous effects of lead.

1.7 million messages for the environment is quite an accomplishment and everyone can be proud; but how much more effective would it be if 1.7 million people protested around the nation to demand real action to reduce carbon emissions and save our world...rather than the silence and inaction that characterize our government's attitude towards climate change and the environment?

If the house is on fire, talking about the fire may be a good thing, but actually trying to put the fire out is a much better thing. Our home, mother earth, is on fire; and, if we don't put the fire out, then we will all perish.

Nonetheless, this video is very good news.

TY Kenneth for an important and quality post [as usual] ~ The Center for Biological Diversity is a true gem . . . the genuine article. . .and like all TRUE "earthlings" working to protect. . .they operate on minimal monetary budgets. JOIN and SUPPORT. . .

PS. Ty also for noting the lead poison issue on the animal nations. . .
Note: A recent study on lead poisoning has drawn a conclusive correlation between lead poisoning in human children and violence and aggression. . .[personal comment: this will affect animal populations as well]. . .it's very bad for brains. . .
perhaps gun nuts have just spent way too much time in close proximity to large quantities of lead. . .

i always send a few bucks to the groups that file lawsuits. it's the only way we're going to stop the destruction.

Thank you for posting Kenneth ! and YES, thank you CBD who I support wholeheartedly with my pennies, because without CBD, those 1.7 million messages would have never happened. And even 1.7 million seems small to me when I consider the millions upon millions of people - no fault of theirs. Our beautiful beautiful world - our home - all that matters.
