I was watching the KD when poor Eight Bells was announced to have had her fall. It was so heartbreaking and shocking. I do not understand why they do not at least try the same hoist they use for horses with one brkens leg? I am not a horse expert but it seems like there could have been not such a quick race to kill Eight Bells. Also noticed and commented to family members that E. Bells was so much smaller and frailer looking than the other horses in the race before the race began. I am going to take a while to get over this. Don't think I will be watching the Derby again next year. :O( EIght BElls Now You are A Pegusus flying over us all FREE & in full glory. (((((((EB))))))

LISA, IT'S BECAUSE OF $$$$$$$$$$$. WHEN A RACING HORSE CAN'T MAKE $$$$$$$$$OFF HIS RACER........THEY DISPOSE OF THEM.

Having worked with horses, you have to be able to get them to stand somewhat to get the hoist under them. With both front ankles broken, this would have been impossible due to the horse's weight. At least they were able to put her out of misery, as unfortunate as it is. Few fillies race in the Triple Crown event because size and 'delicacy' is an issue.

She looked like such a beautiful horse. It's a real shame that the industry people just don't care the, way the rest of us do.
