Common in cities across China, these roadside restaurants specialise in dishes made of almost every conceivable part of dogs including heads, legs, testicles and innards. The animals destined to be killed for the table are often kept on display outside...

You can tell these poor dogs suffered in pain because their mouths are open, like they were screaming, especially the one. How heartbreaking. I hate the scumbags. Signed three. Noted with thanks River.

First, I don't have cable on TV and only use the TV at home to watch DVDs. Second, I rarely, if ever, watch the TV in the break room at work. To me, it is despicable that there are people in China who care neither for dogs nor tigers, rhinos, leopards, turtles, or any other animals or humans. Personally, I know that there ARE Chinese (even some in power) who care about such issues--the sad thing is that there are others in power who could care less.

I live in Macau, China, I have 4 rescued dogs and help in a shelter, I also feed feral dogs and just yesterday I have caused havoc on the main bridge to save a kitten left there to die, yet, we have tried to enact a law here against animal cruelty but the government couldn't care less, they rejected our petition. I can't look at those pictures it really hurts. Please distribute this information we need to stop this cruelty.

this is so horrible, i feel sick. but i wonder how long before our food supply starts running low. with the over fishing how many fish will be left in the ocean? we are killing our planet with poisons, ge foods, etc. i guess the question will be in the future, what will you eat when face with starvation? We really need to start acting now, what will our future be?

The only way they will stop this disgusting, sickening practice is if they are hit in the pocketbook. We need to boycott their products, not just Olympic Games. I think I am going to be sick now. Sadly noted

But DO WE really boycott them...? I mean seriously...? God knows the trouble I go through (I should have written trouble in capital letters) to filter out 'goods' made in hell, I mean China, sorry, and it´s HARD WORK!! *Everything* seems to be made in China!!! It´s REALLY difficult, believe me, it is, but unless we all go through a bit of 'hardship' the madness will never end (and I say 'hardship' with a big pinch of salt, as hardship does not exist when you compare this minor inconvenience with the living hell these poor animals go through!!).

EVERYONE REALLY SERIOUSLY BOYCOTT CHINA, PLEASE! Let´s all join in on this, let´s hit them hard and hurt them in the pockets!

Write China embassies...tell them how their souls are not in harmony with what is knowing of good. That is a big thing with the "orient"...they believe they need to be in "harmony"...and they aren't.

Beijing wants dogs off menu during Olympics
By Mure Dickie in Beijing

Published: July 10 2008 16:19 | Last updated: July 10 2008 16:19

In an unusual Chinese campaign against canine-based cuisine, Beijing has called on local hotels and restaurants to stop serving dog meat during the Olympic Games next month.

The move is part of a broad drive by the Chinese capital to present its best possible face during the games. It reflects concerns among senior officials that the sight of roast or stewed dog might offend visitors from western nations
In a low-profile order issued recently in the name of the municipal food safety office, the capital’s catering industry association was told to “advocate” to its members that they “suspend use of dog meat dishes during the Olympic period”.

Hotels and restaurants playing a direct role in preparations for the games were targeted for special attention by other government departments, as were those in “key control areas” such as those along the routes to be used by the Olympic flame relay.

The campaign recalls efforts by South Korea – where dog meat is highly popular – to ban its consumption during the 1988 Seoul Olympics after fierce criticism from western animal rights groups.

Though little used in local Beijing dishes, dog meat has long been available in the capital at Korean restaurants and those offering the cuisines of southern Chinese provinces. Though the government has not specified any punishments for defiant dog-servers, the Olympic instruction is having some effect.

Maoxianglou, a restaurant serving food from south-western Guizhou province, said on Thursday it had been ordered not to sell its signature “Huajiang Dog”, a dish reputedly good for people suffering from high blood pressure or frequent night-time urination.

“We are not allowed to sell it during the Olympic period – and it’s not clear what will happen afterwards,” said a restaurant employee.

As in other Asian nations, dog consumption is facing increasing opposition within China, where the custom of keeping canine pets has become popular among newly wealthy urbanites.

Although the current campaign is backed by Guo Jinlong, Beijing mayor, one industry official suggested there were doubts among the bureaucracy about how to enforce it and concerns that visitors from South Korea might be disappointed at not being able to eat dog.

Still, it appears that dedicated dog devourers will not be denied the dish completely during the games, which open on August 8. A manager at Gourou Dawang, a restaurant in southern Beijing whose name translates as “Dog Meat King”, said it was trading as normal.

The Chinese and other Asians would argue,

"What gives you the right to tell us to stop eating dogs when you yourself don't stop eating cows, chickens and other animals? That's YOUR norm, and this is OURS! When you stop eating cows, chickens and other animals of YOUR norm, then come back to tell us stop eating dogs of OUR norm. Until then, shut the hell up!"

This is something I read somewhere in a forum...

Good point, Nick the difference would be that although the animals in slaughterhouses do suffer in the western world, they are not deliberately tortured to death, skinned alive, boiled alive, beaten to death, hung over and over again, crammed in caged one on top of the other watching their brothers been tortured to death, that is the difference. Personally, I no longer eat animals and my wish is that someday the world will wake up and stop eating the animals.

NICK, THEY DON'T JUST EAT DOGS.......THEY ARE INHUMANE, ONLY TO DOCILE PETS, BUT TO MOST OF THERE ANIMALS/MAMMALS. WE HAVE TO START SOMEWHERE....THE US INCLUDED. AND FOR ANIMALS LOVERS, WE HAVE TO PURSUE, ENSUE TO WORLD AGAINST THESE INHUMANE ATROCITIES. WE NEED TO EVOLVE. LIKE THE STORY I DID MONTH AGO, KIDS HAVING FUN KILLING SEALS AND SMILING ABOUT IT. THESE KIDS ARE ESKIMOS. DO I CARE.....NO!...WILL I PURSUE AND ENSUE COUNTRIES, WORLDWIDE, UNTIL SUCH INHUAME ACTS HALT THRU SANCTIONS, HARDSHIPS AND DEVASTATION.........YES!

SINCE WE ARE, AS A NATION, WORLD LEADERS; SHOULDN'T IT MAKE SENSE TO EVOLVE AND ENLIGHTEN HUMAN EVOLUTION, WORLDWIDE.

ANIMAL ATROCITES ARE EVER MUCH AS HERE AS ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD. IS THIS THE EXCUSE YOU USE, NICK, TO TURN THE OTHER CHEEK? IT'S NOT MINE. AS LONG AS ANIMALS (WORLDWIDE) SUFFER IN VEIN, I WILL FIGHT THIS WAR. NOBODY SAID IT WOULD BE EASY, BUT I'M NOT IN IT FOR THE VACATION. "WATER RUNS DOWNHILL." MY CHALLENGES, DON'T!...AND NEITHER WILL I UNTIL ANIMALS ARE TREATED HUMANELY.

DOES THIS LOOK LIKE I AM GOING TO "SHUT THE HELL UP"?......THE ANIMALS SURE HOPE I DON'T...AND I WON'T...I AM NOT A QUITTER, BUT HUMAN WOULDN'T EVEN WANT TO LIVE IN A WORLD WHERE ANIMALS COULDN'T LIVE JUSTLY.

IT IS MY MISSION TO MAKE THEM THE "VOICELESS"...AND TO UNITE THE VOICES THAT WILL ENCOURAGE SANCTIONS AND HARDSHIPS FOR ALL COUNTRIES, ALL STATES, AND ALL HUMANS THAT ARE NON COMPLIANT WITH IN HUMANITY.

Please bear with me, because I know this is going to be hard for most of you to understand. Please keep in mind when you put pictures like the one on this news story up, there is no warning that they will be unavoidable to view. I almost got physically ill when I went to the website hunting for the petition. Those pictures, while factual, are too graphic for a few of us. I am totally with you on this issue, and every issue involving animal abuse, so please excuse non-signing of this petition. Wishing you much success!
