On the eve of a European Union debate on whether to ban seal products, Canadian fisheries ambassador Loyola Sullivan says a European cardiac surgeon has indicated new surgical techniques may create a demand for 300,000 harp seal heart valves a year.

While I can in no way place myself in the shoes of those who need extreme surgery on organs such as the heart, I also can in no way condone the use of parts of seals to aid in the surgery. The fact that this kind of procedure is even possible shows that modern medicine is being taken way too far. Moreover, it is hard to fathom that there are synthetics made and used that last for 10 years. This is a significant amount of time for anyone facing such decisions. No, no, no, no. This is absolutely unacceptable!

This reminds me of the guy who back in the seventies switched 2 different monkey heads and they survived for several hours afterwards. These guys are monsters.

another way of scapegoating animals as though they are lower to service human needs... I have great sympathy for those whose health demands this attention, however when you think about even these efforts of surgically correcting human health issues is invasive... what can I say..

In the east we believe that a person has only x amounts of breaths in his/her boby and after the last one has been taken, that's that. Spare the seals for goodness sake. How much more are we going to exploit animals for our own gratification and greed? Is conscience a thing of the past?
