Every year, President Obama has requested funds for high-speed rail. Since 2010, Congress has stood in his way. It is time to let Congress know that we want high-speed rail now.

Anderson Cooper ran another big story on high-speed rail this week, this time focusing on the Amtrak "Cascades" line running between Portland and Seattle.

The show was another expose claiming to highlight the government "boondoggle" railroad construction in the region--and attacks the Obama administration for not making a real investment in high speed rail, like he promised.

Cooper is wrong--the problem isn't the administration. It's Congress. Their lack of funding of high speed rail is forcing us to invest in half measures, when we should really be building a comprehensive national network of fast, convenient, affordable trains.

Can you send a message to Congress to fully fund high-speed rail in 2014?

At the end of the show, Anderson even mentioned our "email bomb" in response to their last high speed rail special! Clearly, those emails had a major impact--this show was much more balanced that the previous one on Vermont.

But Cooper's story on the Cascades missed some important pieces of the story. Most importantly, it failed to bring Congress to task for not appropriating a single dollar for high-speed rail since 2010.

That's why the story made me so mad.

Because of President Obama, the nation's first dedicated high-speed line will break ground this summer. Because of President Obama, we have seen tremendous improvements in Amtrak service here in the Midwest. The administration's leadership set the stage for the first detailed study of a dedicated high-speed line in Illinois.

Every year, President Obama has requested funds for high-speed rail. Since 2010, Congress has stood in his way.

It is time to let Congress know that we want high-speed rail now.

The ball is in Congress' court.

Thanks for all that you do.

Sincerely,

Rick Harnish

Noted and signed. As long as they use land already zoned for rail and don't start stealing from landowners.

I have a question. Why is it the greatest, and most exceptional nation in the universe is opposed to stepping into the 21st century?

Thank You for Your Help - signed.

The Midwest High Speed Rail Association is advocating for fast, frequent and dependable trains connecting the entire Midwest.

We recently released a high-level engineering study on a 220mph bullet train network for the Midwest. The study showed that not only is a high-speed rail network possible for our region, the benefits would be tremendous. I wonder oh how I wonder which special interest group has Congress by the short and curlies? Why does America lag behind China in this respect? There's no excuse for it except it's being withheld much as scalar wave devices and grids have been since 1932.

I'd love to see trains make a comeback and a high speed rail system would be awesome. Why, it would just move us right into modern times, just like that!
