American Rivers

We have a great new video about the Colorado River that I hope you will take 3 minutes to watch.

Itís the story of a vital lifeline in the desert - a river that supports millions of people and endangered wildlife. But itís also a river in danger. The Colorado River is so over-tapped that it is barely a trickle by the time it reaches the sea.

We can change this, but we need Congress to act.

Already, our efforts have mobilized tens of thousands of individuals across the country to email and call their member of Congress. Hundreds of local and national media outlets have carried our story, and we have sparked lively dialogues on social media.

But we need your help to keep up these efforts that are increasing the pressure on our nation's leaders to stand strong in support of our rivers.

Help us keep up the fight to protect the Colorado and all the rivers we depend on for drinking water and recreation, for life itself. Watch this new video then please donate whatever you can afford today.

Youíre the reason we can do what we do. You make our work possible. Thank you.

For the rivers,

Bob Irvin
President

Beautiful and shocking, ty. So terrible that the river doesn't make it to the sea any more.

Rivers and streams are the arteries and veins of our planet. Imagine if we put in our arteries and veins what we put in our rivers and streams. How long would we last? How long will our world last if we do not begin respecting all of it?

Thank you for taking action to protect our rivers!

I signed petition as I was able to find it. I'm afraid the link doesn't open to a video.

I do know however that:

The Colorado River is one of the most used and contested waterways on Earth.

It provides water for 30 million people, and has many dams and diversions along its 1,450 miles.

Because it is so heavily tapped for agriculture, industry, and municipal uses along its course, the Colorado River rarely reaches its delta and the Gulf of California.

About one-tenth of the river's former flow now makes it to Mexico, but most of that is used for farming and cities south of the border.

Water IS life.....think about it.

It has been an honor to be able to have seen this river in all it's glory. I've walked down inside the walls that dam it, I've flown over it in a helicopter and driven to it and touched it's waters. It is priceless. It must be protected. Thank you for posting the talking river.
