Members of Congress are hearing a lot from Pentagon contractors right now. But congressional staff tell us they’re not hearing enough from other people who are seeing—and in some cases feeling—the effects of deep cuts to human needs programs. This week, while members of Congress are home for the Memorial Day recess, please join us to send a new message each day to the offices of your senators.

Persistence matters – that’s the message we’re hearing from Congress.

Today, for Memorial Day, remind your senators that the federal government could buy a home for every homeless veteran in the United States with the amount of money that Lockheed-Martin receives in just one year. You can find more of these comparisons on our website.

Your messages are making a difference. As you know, current law requires the core Pentagon budget to be cut by $1 trillion over the next decade. But senators from both major political parties are trying to reverse these cuts. Just last week, a key House committee voted to protect Pentagon spending by making deep cuts to effective government programs that keep young people and the elderly out of poverty.

Will you make sure your senators' local offices are hearing you all this week? Because your senators will be back in your state this week, we’ll be sending out an email every day offering you a way to act. I hope you’ll join us. You can follow along on our website, on Facebook and on Twitter. If you don’t want to receive all these emails this week, just let us know.

Thank you,

Diane Randall
Executive Secretary

the number priority should be to make sure there is no more homeless folks and that everyone has plenty of food and clothing and medical coverage and job placement assistance we do not need to fund any more wars or weapons of mass destruction every other country is way ahead of the united states as far as helping make sure people have the basics we need to get on board and cure this problem so congress needs to get off their butts and start doing the job that they were elected to do in the first place if not then we need to replace them with someone that will step up and help.

Congressional Members know how to take good care of themselves and their families while turning a blind eye an a deaf ear to the government of " For t'he People By the People".

the pentagon budget is bloated, to begin with, to support our imperialist presence in the world, in turn supportive of our Plutocracy.

Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL)

Nelson a compassionate man but I'm upset he voted for NDAA. However all else I've been pleased with.

Rubio....Tea Bag Candidate, and is being groomed to run for President. He is most Heartless and would care less if children, Veteran, and Elders are going hungry. See his name....don't vote him in.

so far all the DOD cuts have been to active and retired people programs! The real villain in the room is the Senator and Congressman who continues to place expensive items in the budget which the pentagon does not want. This is like asking the wolf to please stay out of the hen house. These people garner their votes by "providing for their districts and states. So, they put in all this crazy spending to make jobs and revenue for the people back home. You get what you vote for. Don't blame the Pentagon.
