I've had students that were undocumented. Before the current wave of hate, it was possible to help, it was possible to get help for people without putting them or their families in danger. Today's conversations about people is so very disparaging, it's almost like they are not human if they don't have the paper work. Instead of working for a bill that encourages and embraces those who wish to be American, the discussions are about financing a border war. The Senate bill that passed is an embarrassment to every thing this country once was all about.
I do know about Jose Antonio Vargas, he could be called a crusader for the cause of those who wish to be Americans, who work, pay taxes and contribute to our society, but are rejected by a faulty bureaucracy.
Thanks J L

You are welcome Christeen and Kit. Excellent explanation of how things have changed for the uglier Kit.

What would I do?? Help in any way possible, be supportive however I can, and if nothing else, be a sounding board, a shoulder to cry on - just be there if, how, when I might be needed. Thank you, can't give JL another star, though many are due for this one.
I've come a long way because last year at this time I was anti illegals...there's hope yet for others.

my cousin found out the hard way that she was undocumented, wanted to get a passport to go to Niagara Falls for her honeymoon. my aunt thought because my cousin was a child she was given automatic citizenship. she's now a citizens...this happens to a lot of children. I was naturalized in 1969 even though my father is an American citizen and was born in a US military hospital in Seoul

I think that the so-called "Undocument" people who were brought here by their parents should be instantly granted amnesty; They have been contributing to this society, it is the only life they know. This young man and all those in the same shoes should be able to be American now. To turn our backs on them is just plain ignorance. He had no choice about where he was sent to live, just like the others who came as children and know no other life. Mr. President, please get this done now.

My Green Stars are rare. This is the first time something like this has happened with me.
I just checked an old thread on the matter in another forum to which I sometimes refer here as the "anti-Care2", with members who consider Genghis Khan to have been a little too far to the Left for their tastes. They agree that there should be extensive reform to fast-track people like Jose to get the right papers ASAP. When the similar sentiments come from both Care2 and anti-Care2, it's time to do something about the problem. on a large scale

If we could ever get the elected officials to do SOMETHING besides try to keep their jobs or kiss the butts of the Corporations and Oil Barons we might be able to help people such as this young man.
Here we are again fixed on Stupid, the get rid of ObamaCare or we don't fund the Government.......once over that hurtle we will be ready for ONCE MORE.....the hijacking of the Debt Ceiling......ObamaCare or trash our economy, to hell and be damned about anyone or anything.
Will they do anything to help this young man? No. Will they do anything to create living wage jobs? No Will our Veterans get the services they need? No. Will our potholes and weak bridges get fixed? No
I'm so sick of it, good people, documented or undocumented must suffer under the weight of a Government that works only for a few, listens only to a few, and fails the majority who toil year after year while those who are elected fail the majority miserably.

I think many don't understand when they hear "undocumented" or "illegal". They assume people leaching off the system or doing illegal activities. Not true. Very good story:)

I would help in any way I could., as this young man is what America should stand for. Through his hard work he has given to America, his intellect, his great work ethic, his compassion and his truthfullness. It is sad that he had to carry this load for such a long time. I wish him Good Luck in all his future endeavors.
Thank You for this touching story JL A.
