Chaplain Ashley Harness This Mormon family's journey to a bigger love for their gay son and a stronger faith just made my day. It only gets better because of families like this!

I confess myself surprised that they stayed with the church at all after the ultimatum.

Is why I have an issue with religions that claim to be so "loving" and then would caste out members of society if they do not conform to some narrow margin of who or how they should be. Why should this family be even in a situation like this. If God is so loving, powerful, and kind would this be a teaching that would be within the church to place such families in such turmoil? Besides if God is perfect, why do people assume that a gay person is not perfect? Isn't he or she also from the same God? It appears this boy had parents willing to work through all the years of the religious doctrine they were conditioned by but as Barbara K said, not all parents will and their children become expendable to them.

This is not about god, this is about using religion to as cover for confusion, embarrassment that desire to fit in, so it turns to hate. These are good people and should their church condemn them for loving their child as he is, then find a new church.

The Bible says that we are made in the image of God.
"Genesis 1:26
26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”"
It does not say only straight, or only white, or only male, or only smart etc . . . all of humankind.

To me, this is part of the story of good and evil. This family represents the goodness of family and the way that God intended . . . a life of love. The church, in this case the Church of LDS represents evil. But any church that does not practice love and compassion for all God's creation, human and animal, represents evil..

I applaud this family's strength and love.

He's a lucky young man!

How many have been cast aside by SHEEPISH parents who allow religion to dictate their lives?
