Dog owners who sleep with their pet or permit licks on the face are in good company. Surveys show that more than half of owners bond with their pets in these ways.

This also goes for pet owners who volunteer at local shelters; when I was doing volunteer work at a local shelter for cats I was told to carefully was my hands, even shower and change all my clothing and shoes before returning home to my own cats ... just in case any of the shelter cats were carrying something we didn't want shared with our "home cats"

we have a dog that we love dearly, but i do not allow it to lick the faces of me and my kids. its not allowed in the same room with us when we eat. its a pet, a dog and its treated as such. and our dog is just as happy as any other dog. its gross. don't people realize a dog eats its own crap, licks its privates and then licks your face. not in my house.

I have 2 dogs, they are sisters, 5 years old, they are the bet dogs ever, potty trained well, obey, and they sleep in our room on their own blankies, and I Do allow them on my bed, sometimes one sleeps with my husband and I or they will take turns. They are vert loving, they are mine and a big part of our family. When we eat they never beg r sit with us while eating, it came natural to them, I wouldn't give them up for the world or to anyone, I am an animal lover and against all animal abuse!

I agree, being careful to wash after working at an animal shelter makies sense. Otherwise, though, it would be safer to kiss and sleep with your cats and dogs than to kiss your own children without washing after. ;o) While young children carry MASSES of germs - particularly if they go to school or preschool, pets carry few that can be transmitted to humans. I sleep with my cats - always will.
