This is great to hear..These children deserve to be protected in every way..

"All children have a right to similar levels of protection from abuse and neglect, and our State has a duty to protect children who are placed in its care," continued Senator DeFrancisco. "This new law will enhance the current standards by creating a statutory scheme that determines whether abuse or neglect has occurred and what responsive actions should be taken."

The law characterizes specific actions that constitute child abuse, including throwing, shoving, kicking, cutting or biting a child; threatening a child by displaying a weapon or other dangerous instrument that could be perceived as a means of inflicting pain or injury; using corporal punishment on a child; and withholding nutrition or hydration from a child as punishment, or unlawfully administering any controlled substance or alcoholic beverage to a child. In addition, the law defines "physical impairment" and "mental or emotional injury or impairment" so that abuse, which may be less evident than physical injury, can still be addressed.

Good news! Even though it should of been this way from the beginning! Look how many lives would of been saved. Hopefully this will help and they will do their jobs and step in when needed.
Thanks Dee.

Senator DeFrancisco has been pretty decent with the endless plights of children and their well-being..I pounded his office with so many petitions..letters..I'm sure the man is tired of me..but I am working on a very sincere "thank you note" I am very happy to see this law in come into effect..
Kathy.. you are absolutely right..It should not have ever been put on a back burner..I will never understand how anything can be more important than a child's welfare..

I have to say its better late than never..and yes..absolutely.. lets hope it helps..
Thank you all for noting..

Why does it take so long to do the right thing by our children? I hate better late then ever. It lets them off the hook. But why do we need laws it protect children in the frist place? Thats the sad part. Good this law is there. But its to bad more will be needed to protect thoses who cant protect themselfs.

To insure all of it is prosecutable. To eliminate loopholes.

Bob..I do agree with your thinking..you are so right..that first.. it should never take time to protect children..secondly..it should be unspoken..unwritten and simply be a fact that no one should harm/hurt any child..So sadly that is not the case..
So yes we do need laws as that is what hopefully ensures protection for children and to prosecute those who bring harm to them..Just as Christy V wrote above..

As for "Better late than never" I am grateful and I do like the famous quote by Titus livius..He was making references to "past history" when he said it..meaning rather than repeating history..with its wrongs/mistakes..that instead we learn..we strive for better..we correct..or finally arrive at a better place..so yes..personally..I like that concept in that quote..
Again..thank you all very much for the notes and comments..it made the front page news..

Every child deserve a good life..but above all a safe one..
