Her name is Cricket Azima and she's an expert on how to get kids to eat healthy. "The more hands on the kids with the food, the less foreign it is. If they are not familiar with the food, they are going to be shy.

"They are not going to be comfy with it," Azima said.

It begins in the market.

"In the grocery store, let them select the menu. Instead of telling them today, kids you are going to have cauliflower, ask them if they would like cauliflower or broccoli. Then they have a vested interest in the menu and they are going to be more likely to eat what you make them," Azima said.

Kids love being creative, so Azima says do it with food."

When my children were young I always let them help in cooking (age appropriate of course)
But they loved it and they were introduced to fresh veggies/fruits and healthier foods right from the start..And I did it on a tight budget as well..There really is no excuse to feed garbage to them..
Today both of my sons are great cooks themselves..and they are very healthy eaters..

Yes..and my older son has followed suit with his son as well..Years ago when my grandson traveled to England..he willingly tried Haggis and he said it wasn't bad..

It is hard Bernadette once they get into the habit of eating junk food..That is why it is important to try to eliminate it before it starts..Then they really don't miss it..

Agreed, Dee C.! And for those kids who eat tons of junk food, they're much more at-risk for malnutrition. Just because someone's eating doesn't mean they're taking care of their body...
