"The killings are a major psychological blow to President Felipe Calderón's war on drugs. The bodies of 11 men and one woman were found by locals on the side of a highway in Mr. Calderón's home state of Michoacán on Monday. The victims had their hands and feet tied, showed signs of torture, and had all been shot in the head at close range.

The agents had been in Michoacán to gather intelligence on the cartel, said Monte Alejandro Rubido, the government's top spokesman on security issues. Officials said they believed the killings were connected to the weekend capture of Arnoldo Rueda Medina, one of the cartel's major operators. "We have reinforced our operations in several states and we will not retreat a single step in our fight against organized crime," Mr. Rubido said at a news conference."

Thanks, Dee. The US War on Drugs is persecuting our neighbor to the South. The violence increases because of US money. The cartels feed the drug habits of Americans and the weapons the cartels use are US purchased. Our habits are making Mexico hell on earth.

Sadley America's cash economy relies on the drug trade so its imperative that Americans wake up and stop taking drugs and get a life.

The Mexican economy does as well..Both sides need to clean house in their own countries..Work together to stop the drug/gun trading smuggling..

It is easy to point fingers and place blame..but..two wrongs never make a "right"

Corruption is also a big factor here..and someone has to step up..honestly and take charge..not give in and or fall into the hands of the Drug Cartels..and too many have already done that..

Noted, thanks Dee. My husband was just commenting how Mexico is advertising more than ever for tourism. This all must really be hurting them. It's really a shame, Mexico is a beautiful country, but it's gotten too dangerous for many people.

I agree La Luna..It is a beautiful country..I have never been there myself..but many friends and family have traveled there often..My brother used to bring back slide and pictures and film to share with me..

Drugs and such violence will always steer people away..regardless of where it is..I have a friend who lived there for many years..He left because of so much turmoil going on..He and his wife did not want to stay where they did not feel safe..He also had an offer in his line of work that helped make that decision..They have no regrets for leaving..and are happy where they are now..But.. they do miss the beauty of it..
