" For the 50-year-old Iqbal, there is only one option. Despite a law passed in late 2007 banning transplants for money, he has decided to sell his kidney and has already been for pre-operation tests. The sale will net him between $1,100 and $1,600.

"What's incredible here is the law that bans the operation he's going to go through came into place in 2007," said CNN's Nic Robertson. "He's still able to go to a doctor, the doctors given him advice, that's what he has to do under law... He's going to make money out of it 100,000-150,000 rupees, and that is absolutely illegal. Yet, in just a few days, he's expecting to sell his kidney."

Iqbal was not alone in facing this difficult decision. Others in Pakistan's rural heartland have opted to sell their kidneys."

Poverty causes the loss of humanity. It cripples the mind and the body. The landlord, the man, the others like him are all victims of the disease of extreme poverty.

Which is why I think people need to work together even more in hard times..There has to be a better answer..One has to rise above these plights and hold together to help one another..not cause more harm..more stress..
We can use many excuses for our ill actions..bottom line is..there is always a better way..One just has to seek it..and be willing to do it..

Very sad for all..

What a crime this man has no other alternatives. He is the victim of a system with no political will to fix the problem. There is far too wide a gap between the rich and poor there and the illnss of the political system is far too complex for a speedy solution. Intervention from outside sources is the only sure solution for this man and others like him. What an agonizing choice to have to make.

Here in the states you have people who are willing to sell and organ, eye, etc in order to have money for basic needs. Craigslist and eBay are deleting ads daily for organs being offered for sale.
