" The body of Hector Ariel Meixueiro Munoz, 53, mayor of Namiquipa, was found inside his SUV on the side of a road on the outskirts of the rural town of 20,000, said Eduardo Esparza, spokesman for the attorney general in the state of Chihuahua.

"He was on his way to work in the morning," said Esparza. "We are still trying to confirm if there was a police escort with him at the time."

The incident has put other officials in the region on alert. Ciudad Juarez Mayor Jose Reyes Ferriz told CNN during a phone interview that death threats are common in his town on the other side of the Rio Grande from El Paso, Texas.

"It's very sad," he said. "This mayor was fighting crime, he had received several threats, but he was brave. Several of the mayors have received threats and we take them seriously."

The Drug Cartels in Mexico get the power and money from the illegal drugs they smuggle into the US and they also get their guns in the US. The entanglement of the US with the Mexican drug dealers is so tight that he might as well have been shot my the US. Mexicans are living with horrendous crime and violence because of the lucrative US drug market.

Very sad and yes my heart goes out to his family too Janet..It is a shame that happened..

No Frances..he was shot and killed by Mexicans..by the drug cartels..We cannot blame the US for that..No more than we can blame Mexico for bringing drugs here..and selling and pushing it..

Not all Mexicans have fallen into criminal activities..There are some fine..upstanding Souls there..who do the right things..who work hard to earn an honest living..They do not fall into crime..no matter what the market is..

Just as not all in the US fall into drugs and crime..

It is two wrongs..each one enabling the another..Both side of this issue..make their own choices..and both sides must be responsible for their own actions..
