"Many visitors didn't heed alerts Sunday to keep back from huge waves that crashed spectacularly and dangerously against the rocky shore as Hurricane Bill passed over open ocean to the east, the park's chief ranger said.

Two people were hospitalized after being pulled into the churning surf by a wave that crashed on the rocks about 150 yards from a popular attraction known as Thunder Hole, where plume-like sprays rise into the air even under less severe conditions. A viewing platform there had already been closed by the park because of the dangerous conditions.

The wave swept over 20 people, 11 of whom were taken to the hospital with injuries including broken bones from being slammed onto the rocks, officials said. Several people were tossed into the water, and all but three managed to pull themselves out."

And now a baby is dead, because of stupid parenting. I will not take their word on saying they were unaware of the danger....

How many hurricanes have we all been though? I am sure even if some have personally never been in or around a hurricane, they are aware of the dangers.

Noted!

Is so sad that the little one wasn't able to be saved and died. I can't help but put some, if not all of the blame on the parents. Shouldn't of been there.
Thank you Dee.

Of course it is ignorance. In Florida you don't go to the beach-they won't let you on it -but there are always some goofy surfers out there in the hurricanes. These parents will have to live with this forever now.

People should not stand to close to the side of the rocks especially with a small child in these conditions.. Tis so sad.

Thanks Dee. I agree with all the comments here. As I see it, if people are warned and if they feel the need to go thrill-seeking anyways, they should pay the cost of the rescue. They do not have the right to drag a child into a situation like that.

There is responsible parenting and responsible pet ownership, unfortunately there is a sad lack of both in this world.

I also agree with the above comments. It is just totally beyond belief how people can be so ignorant. You would think people are living in a computer-game dream world and don't believe that anything "bad" can happen to them or to their families including pets of course. How many cyclists are injured or auto rally spectators killed because some person just cannot resist leaning out into or even crossing the road to get that great video shot??? Not to mention irresponsible drivers... Thank you, Dee.

This is so very sad to have happened. I feel for the family. We don't get very many effects from hurricanes in Maine and unfortunately they we're wrong in thinking that they were safe.
