The parents of a 15-year-old girl who was gang-raped on a California high school campus urged the community Saturday to channel its anger over the event "through positive action," according to a pastor.

"At a Saturday community event at the campus where the attack took place, the Rev. Jim Wheeler, who said he was the family's pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Richmond, read a statement from the teenager's parents.

"Stop the violence," Wheeler read. "Please do not respond to this tragic event by promoting hatred or by causing more pain. We've had enough violence already in this place."

Police say as many as 10 people were involved in the rape on October 24 in a dimly lit back alley outside Richmond High School, where a homecoming dance was taking place.

Another 10 people watched the attack without calling 911, police say."

I think the rapers should be sterilized. Beating them or puting them to jail would not solve their problem and the social problem. Those parents are right , violence is no use. But they must be punished exemplary especialy because they raped a minor, a teenage girl.

AS much as I thought we were trying to raise well educated, smart, level headed, compassionate kids, that will be leaders in this nation someday soon, I have to say not only am I totally disgusted with each and everyone of these that either participated, or stood by and watched this kind of horror go on for over 2 hours! I could not believe my eyes when I saw that not only did the attack happen, it lingered for over 2 hours! Where the heck were the adults in charge of this homecoming dance? It is beyond me to think no one missed a friend, no one thought anything about the noise (you know this girl had to be screaming when she could, plus noise from the onlookers going on), what about any parents picking kids up? Where was any one person who should have been aware, and on top of all that was going on...
The other part that is so unbelievably horrible is how these bunch of juvenile delinquents came from any parents that were supposed to be raising them right. What kind of family life do these kids have that makes them want to harm, rape, ravage, abuse, and have so much hatred towards their own peers that they would do such a horrendous act against another human, and then those that watched as just as guilty, if not more guilty for standing around over 2 hours and watching this kind of nightmare go on. It is just beyond me to get how anyone could be so cold hearted and calloused at such an early age.

I have two teenage grandaughters and two infant great-grandaughters .. and the thoughts that immediately came to mind when I read this story ranged from reasonable to horrible. A part of me wants to see those participating in this .. this .. shameful incident physically rendered unable to ever repeat this disgusting behaviour .. and I don't have jail in mind. We neuter male dogs .. why do we shy away from doing the same to men and boys who exhibit mad dog behaviour ? I also have 3 grandsons and if they ever just stood by and watched something this horrible .. to say nothing of participating .. I would feel the same way. There is something 'wrong' with males who can do this and suffer no consequences of conscience.

This is an outrage. I don't care who you are or what walk of life you come from.. how can anybody stand by and watch a 15 year old girl get gang raped? Every one has cell phones!!! Why didn't anyone call 9-1-1 on their cell phones??? This makes me sick that society has become so apathetic and there is so much filthy lust that is accepted as the norm. Thanks Dee for posting this story.

Evil will triumph if good men do nothing. From stories like this I wonder where the good men are!

ok! so i agree, violence as a response is no answer, but, then what is the approiate response?? like as bad as this was i can see them walking away with not but a slap on the wrist if the press and people do not keep this constantly in the public eye!and i'm sorry but they who were involved ,whether as a partisapant,or spectator deserve some kind of lasting punishment that will follow them the rest of there lives.whether phyically or mentally,or preferrably both as it will follow her thru hers!!and i do think the srectators are as guilty as the partisapents!bar none.thanks Dee

Education, education and respect, kids need to be brought up with respect between the different genders... learn to ignore peer pressure and to be taught the difference between right and wrong... Bring your kids up in the ways of the Lord and they will never stray, so too are good biblical prinicples.. they should be instilled into the hearts and minds at an early age

Mariam, the point of this is that NO-ONE interferred and it goes beyone disgust. Education does play a part but, regretfully, so does apathy and the totaly loss of community. Remember all the old stories where everyone knew each other such as Ann of Green Gables and Ton Sawyer? Well, if they ever existed they certainly don't now.

No-one will stop and lend a hand in case they are sued. In America a doctor will walk past an ill person and not even call an ambulance. In France, the law says that they must stop and help, so must anyone passing. Fancy having to legislate for basic human kindness but, if they didn't, then it would be like America. It's going that way here in the UK and that is sad.

And where was God in all this? Surely HE could have stopped it IF He is all Powerful as some claim?

Simple answer. GOD is a Gentleman. We want Him out of our government, out of our science, out of our schools, out of our Universities and out of our pleasure. We all want Him out of our lives, so, being the Gentleman, He refuses to step in where He is NOT wanted. Let the Atheists fix the problem, they wanted it this way. Maybe they have a much better solution than "Biblical" laws which are often considered barbaric because, as you treat someone else, that is how you are asking to be treated. Yes, an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth is how these perpetrators need to be treated.

If they can't learn to treat others kindly then they need to learn that IF you do the crime, then expect to do the time. Trouble is that the facts get so mixed up with money paying to get criminals off that really there is NO justice today. If you kill somebody you may get a few years jail, BUT if the lowly class steal from the bank or the tax office, they will get many years of jail. Where really ARE our priorities? People don't really count anymore.
