Chinese scientists have shifted its focus from mapping the moon to completing the world's first land cover map of the Antarctica at the end of this year. The result will be the most accurate map of the continent ever published.

Fantastic. They are becoming more of a world leader, step by step.

I love mapping. Hope they are as accurate as they are claiming they'll be.

Noted Sophie!

China invented the rocket, it was millennia before scientists understood orbit and the laws of motion.

Nick, question: how does China take care of health costs and universities? It costs $200,000 for a degree at some schools, and in a few years most people can't afford medical care.

Let's keep in mind that China isn't doing this for noble or humanitarian reasons; their reasons are threefold:
1) national prestige;
2) political and propaganda motives;
3 )and most important of all: find MINERAL, NATURAL GAS and OIL DEPOSITS

Also: Recall that their work wouldn't have gotten anywhere without those 1,073 images that were acquired from OUR US Satellite LANDSAT...in other words: they got a sweet deal that cost them next to nothing, and in return we hand them the fruits of our labors while they suck up the glory and continue winning the propaganda war

BTW: If the Chinese are so humanitarian then why are the Tibetans still being tortured and killed on orders from Bejing?
