There are several counties in America, each with more than 10,000 homes, which have vacancy rates above 55%. The rate is above 60% in several.

And y'all know how this happened, right?

"Industry" was permitted to push its agenda (greed, profiteering) over the needs of society. The 3 industries of real estate, construction, and those land "developers" are mostly at fault for over-building to line their own pockets. Too many buildings, too much green space permanently destroyed and what do we have? Astronomical vacancies, bankrupt people, and struggling local governments stuck with infrastructure costs (because the developers get their money and leave the counties/cities with all the costs for everything else).

We really need to STOP this. "Business" and "industry" exists because we, The People of society, *permit* these businesses the *privilege* of serving us - not the other way around. Too many corporate profiteers see society as little more than "useless people" to push out of their way, or as "consumers" to bleed dry to boost their profit margins. We are one or the other to them, nothing else. The idea that they should SERVE the community has been long gone because our society has glorified profit and crapitalism above all else, and it now trumps society.

This scenario should have never, ever happened - and here we are, stuck with vacant buildings, wildlife suffering from horrific habitat loss and ecological destruction, and for what? So some asshat in a corporation can make another million? Pfft!
