This is unrealistic. Who is going to pay for this? Public transportation i any US city will not be able to afford this. And what happens if you add the metal detectors? There is no bouncers on board.

I guess if people stop using busses and trains for cross country transport due to safety
concerns, the companies will feel they can afford these safety measures and will pay for them. (Not all busses are publicly owned.)

Thank you Kelli, I signed and feel it is a worthy goal and not at all unrealistic. (There was
a time when there was concern that it was unrealistic to put metal detectors in Airports).

similar incident on a septa bus the other day, had me confused with this attack. the young man fortunately survived being attacked by a man with a hammer. something has to be done, let's look at reality, the owners of these transports are not in the poorhouse. metal detectors should be installed, and I am sure they would be a tax write off. isn't everything for big business?

This a tragedy what happened. I often have travelled by bus with my young son because going from just Ohio to Maryland it often is the cheapest option. I have already thought many times that they should have a better security system because although the bus companies reserve the right to search luggage they need probable cause. I wonder just how many people have weapons and/or drugs on them. I am not overly paranoid or worried but this would be so easy to do by bus. What I'm confused about is what kind of bus was this man on? I luckily have never had any trouble on the bus but you really never know and not only will metal detectors keep everyone safer it will discourage criminals from travelling by bus or train.

Signed and noted. It's not a bad idea. But then, the people who put the schedules together would have to re-do all the schedules especailly for the busy stops in the downtown areas of the cities. Plus, if they install one, how would the wheelchair bound people board the bus? One door is being used for the lift anyway.
