This place needs to just disappear!
I wish to God I could just hold her in my arms and tell her
everything will be okay! But its not! Not until we can do something!
It must be the power of the good people!
Saved and again noted! Thank you!
Peace for all animals!

This is how they murder all of these babies.
They swing these innocent little beings and slam their heads into the concrete and say that, that's humane! Humane slaughter is nothing but a myth! There is no such thing!
Damn, this is murder!!!!! The murder of innocent little pigs! And their only crime is being born. We need to close these torcher chambers! Its like slavery all over again!
This says so much about our society! Thank you for letting me ramble on!
Peace for all animals!

Noted with thanks and oinks, Saving Opus One. I adore my little piggies and-I know this has nothing to do with pig slaughter-but when I was a little girl, my fave store to visit at the beach was the Piggly-Wiggly. (Don't worry, Saving, I'm going to do something about this).

This story and video I saw made me cry and stay up for days. I could not sleep. My heart is broke by such.........genocide and brutality. Only Evil can do that. Only Evil can produce that. There is no punishment great enough for those people.

The real problem is factory farming and assembly line production of food animals. It's unnatural and stupid. Not only do these methods dehumanize us but they also promote the spread of disease and contribute substantially to the pollution of our rivers and streams. The whole thing is based upon the capitalistic notion of money being the only real value. This has got to stop.

Noted and action being taken again.Thank you saving opus for the article.

This horrendous cruelty to the pigs must stop, the people responsible are evil and have lost their humanity. They are also a real danger to society. They must be charged and jailed otherwise there is no deterrant to others committing this cruelty.

As a member of PETA, and Animals Australia I've been campaigning all year to get Factory Farming abolished, not only is it inhumane inflicing pain, suffering and deprivation to our wonderful animals, but as Seamus righly points out it contributes to immense pollution.

Currently, industry operators that cause mass suffering to animals for economic gain are exempted from the same duty of care to animals demanded of every other member of the Australian community.

To compound this injustice, the existence of 'codes of practice' is used by industries, retailers and governments to mislead the community to believe that 'codes' ensure the welfare of the animals - when infact they are directly responsible for permitting cruel practices.

Consumers can change how these animals live by not buying or eating factory farmed pork, ham, and bacon products.Ideally adopt a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle.

I'd really like to see what this is about, but I'm too sensitive to animal cruelty which this is obviously about. Is there any way for me to read about it without having to view pictures which just makes it that much worse. From what Maureen says, I'd doubt I'd be able to handle it, but I'd like to take action if I knew what it was about and what needed to be done.

Hi Aprille! This is a terrible case of cruelty and we don't blame you for not wanting to see pictures. Here is a link to the DesMoines Register. www.desmoinesregister.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080917/NEWS/80917017

You can also help by calling one of the officials mentioned above.
Thanks for your support! Saving Opus One

Thanks. I will contact the above names with addresses. I too have a hard time seeing the heartless cruel acts some people are capable of. Every animal is sacred, and deserves the respect we give people, more than the ones who commit these horrific acts.

I wrote Hormel and didn't hear from them. First i had to sign up to ask them a question, but my friend got an answer from them and they are saying they didnn't own that facxtory when that happened and they are very strict against animal cruelty. Anyway, before my family went vegetarian and vegan we gave up pork after seeing the pigs at the fair and they started screaming when men tried to wrestle them in to a truck. My youngest son was really upset as was I, He is 18 now and a vegan, God bless the animals.

I don't eat pork, have so for years. Pigs are so cruelly treated and nobody seems to care. The pig farmers are really only interested in their profits! Shame on them all. What would it cost to use anesthetics when cutting their tails, neutering them, or cutting their teeth? Not much, but they are greedy and want it all for themselves. Pig farmers shame on you!!

I wrote to Hormel waiting to hear from them.

Seeing those little baby pigs makes my blood boil. These human beings are monsters.
I've written Hormel already and I will gladly call my senators! Thank you for the #! We can definitely help these animals. Mars Corp. was doing animal testing. They got 6,000 emails and calls a week, every week for months and stopped what they were doing. We can bombard those phone lines and they will acquiesce because of public outcry!

Noted, and I'm taking action. I'm sorry but I can't bear to watch the video. I'm very weakhearted. I feel so powerless knowing what I know allready but I can't handle the pictures. Sorry. I'm glad I became a vegetarian.

Ninety-eight percent of all animal suffering takes place in factory farms and slaughterhouses.
I could not watch the video, reading about it hurts so much. I am glad that
I live a vegetarian life. I love and respect every animal.

I think we are all quite sensitive to animal issues, which is why we are here. It hurts to see and to even know, but please never stop taking action that may help animals! These companies will lie and deny their involvement, but unless they have surveillance cameras installed to monitor every action, they have no real defense. Many people working in the factories become quite desensitized to the pain the animals endure before they die. There is far more abuse going on than we will ever know.
TY Brenda for the forward, TY Saving Opus One!

Hormel the HORRIBLE

This is digusting beyong words. So many crimes against other creatures, and so little remorse from those who commit these crimes. When will it end? What will it take? Maybe when the little green uber-aliens land on earth and do the same things to us will be understand how horrifyingly wrong our behaviour has been and still is. I hope we wise up long before then, but at this...it doesn't look likely.

Hormel - another reason I am glad I became a vegetarian 20 years ago!

I received this reply from hormel:

A video was released the evening of September 16, 2008 that showed images from a hog farm in Iowa. It is important to note that the farm in the video is not a Hormel Foods' farm and the people are not Hormel Foods' employees. We find the images in this video appalling and they are inconsistent with our standards and industry standards for animal handling. The abuse on the video depicted practices that are completely unacceptable. We expect all current suppliers to adhere to the proper animal handling standards from day one and continue to do so throughout our relationship. We are working with our supplier to ensure this activity is no longer taking place, and they are investigating this matter and will take appropriate disciplinary actions, including terminating employees. Underscoring our company's zero tolerance policy, we have in the past terminated employees, truckers and contracts with producers when animal welfare issues have arisen. Animal welfare and animal husbandry have always been top priority at Hormel Foods. This is simply about treating animals humanely because it's the right thing to do. We take our zero tolerance policy for the inhumane treatment of animals very seriously and have implemented many standards outlined in our responsibility report : http://www.hormelfoods.com/responsibility/process/animalWelfare.aspx. ShellyConsumer Response Specialist Ref # 1664281

Now I have send this to Peta, I want to know what the truth is!!!

I received the same Hormel reply as Bea did. I'm glad to hear it has been forwarded to PETA since I didn't really know what to do with it or what the next step should be. Thanks for sharing this! I strongly support having videocameras installed in hog farms.
