Way to go New Jersey! This is great news for all Farm Animals. This goes to show that change can and does happen. Let's use NJ as an example to other states and ask those states to please follow NJ's example.

Noted and thank you Saving Opus. This is a great start but it still has a long way to go!
see copy:
The New Jersey Supreme Court left in place regulations that allow the confinement of breeding pigs in gestation crates and calves in veal crates, as well as the transport of sick and downed cattle.

Although the court noted that these practices are controversial and that downed animals "suffer greatly," it found the record on appeal insufficient to warrant striking the regulations at this time.

I agree that much more has to be done and this is just a start. As we continue to spread the word and educate more people we do believe that more positive changes will come.

"An anti-confinement initiative on California's November 2008 ballot. If approved by voters, Proposition 2 would outlaw gestation crates for breeding pigs, veal crates for calves and battery cages for egg-laying hens in the nation's largest agricultural state."

Notice that people still have to vote for this to come into effect. Why not just bring it into effect anyway?
Id like to know what this proposition2 really is.

"This decision will protect thousands of animals in New Jersey, and also calls into question some of the worst factory farm abuses practiced throughout the country," said Jonathan Lovvorn, vice president of animal protection litigation for The Humane Society of the United States. "All animals deserve humane treatment, including animals raised for food."

Humane does not mean the animals are free, the animals are still killed for the crap excuse for food. Although the HSUS admits it anyway.
Animals are not protected as the exploitation is still allowed. I bet they will not be protected from painfull death either.

Watcher, the animals will never be protected from a painful death, humane slaughter is nothing more than a myth! The only way for farm animals to be free from any pain would be complete extinction! I believe it was Jack at PETA that said, extinct means safe forever! And I fully agree! Only then will complete suffering for the farm animals come to an end!
Abolish Animal Slavery!

"Abolish animal slavery"

That can happen it is possible and all it takes is when enough people stand up and turn against animal welfare and stand for abolition of exploitation.

I may seem mean to some but the animal welfare organisations dont stand for abolition only welfare and those laws hinder animal rights greatly. PETA does this too unfortunately they follow the same pattern.

I know what you mean Judith complete abolition of animals in farming, complete abolition of animal exploitation. I stand for abolition fully and no compromises.

An even better word is the abolition of speciesism. We all have the power we all can do our bit we just need to watch out for the misleaders such as the animal welfare laws and those that follow and encourage them.

HSUS for example in the past was seen just like any other animal welfare org as a good thing for animal rights but the people were misled they were also funding con artists who donated to them HSUS was just one of them there were many more mentioned in CIVIS such as Animal Aid.

A site called the Hans Ruesch Centre is a thorough explaination on this and very detailed recommended a lot of time to read the info on it.

http://www.vivisectionfraud.com/civisb1pt1.html

There are more links on the site and just as detailed. It covers a lot from the very begining to later on. Takes a while to read through most of them.

Now they must change this:
The New Jersey Supreme Court left in place regulations that allow the confinement of breeding pigs in gestation crates and calves in veal crates, as well as the transport of sick and downed cattle.

These beloved animals are going to die, but until then we must do everything that's possible in our power to make their lives as comfortable as possible before their deaths! God that sounds awful! I will continue handing out leaflets and making phone calls in my home state of Calif for a big YES for Prop 2! When will this madness end for the farm animals? Will it ever end?
Abolish Animal Slavery!

Given that we live in world where people eat meat, and will no doubt continue to do so for quite some time, this is a good beginning. Our next step is to work toward these animals having a life worth living before losing it. This is not terribly satisfying for those of us who choose not to eat animals at all. Nonetheless, I think we need to be grateful when others are willing to take these small steps in recognition of the suffering of animals. Well done, New Jersey.

Pamylle you are correct. The majority of people in the US probably eat consume more meat than vegetables. It is a truly terrible end to a too short life that these animals will suffer. It will be a victory of sorts to at least make this short life worth living. Although the conditions that will exist after the passage of these laws are much more than ideal. You still will not see animals leisurely grazing under the open skies and that is the only life that I find acceptable for animals. I do applaud NJ for their beginning and hope that my state of California passes Prop 2.

This was indeed excellent news! A break-through at precisely the right time, considering Hormel supplier's undercover investigation by PETA. Lets hope that NJ sets an example for the rest of the nation to follow. Thanks Saving Opus.

nearly speechless, this is at least a step in the right direction. I am fearful we are outnumbered by the 'I don't cares'. at Philly Zoo a week ago, asking many if they wanted info on the rights and concerns of elephants, many replied, "I really don't care".
People better hope their God cares for them more than they care for animals.
keep at it OPUS, we are here for you!

Shroedinger is right, we must fight for the abolition of animal slavery, there is no humane way to kill an animal, they still suffer horrible deaths and how can they be sure that there will be no abuse and suffering behind closed doors? They would have to install cameras.
