Dutch MPs approved on Tuesday a ban on mink breeding for fur with effect from 2018. The law, yet to be approved by the senate and signed by Queen Beatrix, prohibits the keeping and killing of minks for their fur.

so my question is why do we have to wait until 2018 for the ban on mink cruelty to come in to effect?

Unfortunately, we have to wait 10 years because existing mink farmers receive that time to get their ROI and phase out. This was also done with fox and chinchilla farming, I believe. I am just so glad that this has finally gotten through. NOW keep the pressure on so that the "senate"passes it and it gets signed into law. The mink have waited too long!
