Such a model would violate Einsteins edict that all electromagnetic radiation - radio waves, infrared, visible light, X-rays and gamma rays - travels through a vacuum at the same speed.

and I am sure the money spent on this telescope could be spent on supporting the homeless and hungry in America and perhaps give us public health coverage for everyone too

I agree with Sally that we need to provide for the homeless and hungry, but this is an important tool in helping scientist map the sources of gamma rays because those are the ones that pose the greatest danger to not just human life but all life on this little blue marble.
