I Listened to this video and thought how important this is to our times and as a testamony to what is happening today-right now in America and around the world. It has been happening to the Native Peoples since the beginning of white peoples governmental rule here on this continent. We as Native people need more than an apology from the government we need JUSTICE!
They can start with Leonard and the many unanswered, unsolved deaths by the FBI and their paid informants on the reservations through the years!9/11 grew out of things like this and is just one more way the government lies to the people and ignores the Constitution the supreme law of this land.It did not matter to many when it was Indian deaths or far away-well now they are doing it across the board across all races and doing this to all who dare to speak out against government tyranny. The good news is our voices count and the government too blind to notice that they have made Leonard and others like him a martyr. Our voices are a growing light that will illuminate the dark so that even the blindest of people can see.
Wado Kat 4 this!

What us "whities" have allowed to occur among the NA's has evolved to us. We are to blame here for allowing such atrocities to occur. It seems it has always been "us" against the government but we as citizens have never become a "us". Divided we fall. What happens to one citizen can and will happen to all.

Sometimes it makes me so angry that its hard for me to listen to it. My sons family are there and have been for generations on Pine Ridge. What they keep doing to Leonard is beyond the arrogance of this country. Land of the free. I don't think so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The First People of this land are the canaries in the coal mine.

"In Germany, they came first for the Communists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist; And then they came for the trade unionists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist; And then they came for the Jews, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew; And then . . . they came for me . . . And by that time there was no one left to speak up."
Pastor Friedrich Gustav Emil Martin Niemoller 1892-1984

Hitler based his ideas and actions on how our Government has dealt with the Indians.

If one group of people are treated thus, why is it not possible for others to be treated the same.

Think about it.

MANY Americans use the words "us" and "them" as a rule not as an exception.....and the US government has a hand in far too much where it does not belong. Justice is all too often a foreign word in this country. I could rant farther, but I will stop here by saying that this wrong needs to be made right.

Noted Thanks, Kat! Leonard Peltier is a political prisoner. I don't see how anyone can even begin to argue that he isn't. He was used as a scapegoat to promote underlying bigotry and hate. His trial was a travesty that was and is used to implement these vicious tools of discrimination It sickens and saddens me that he is suffering at the hands of cold and callous ignorance and disdain. May he find peace and may he be freed.

Thank you for sharing Kat. Noted with great anger towards the government! And the cover ups & the illusions continue to keep the country divided so no one sees the truth!!
Faith you are so right. I had a baliff tell me in a "court of law" that the Constitution had no place in the courtroom because we are now dealing with a War time Admirality court!! Now how many Americans know that!
The truth needs to be exposed & people need to be held accountable for the deaths of so many fine people & Leonard needs to be set free!! Its a travisty of justice & a slap in our collective faces that such things go on unchecked!

I did not know the name of it Yvette but I knew that as long as Congress keeps re-enacting the state of emergency rule and as long as we are at war-and we are now in a never ending war on terror against terrorism which can go on forever for the world always has a terrorist or few-then these kinds of enactments upon our laws can legally -Constitutionally go on forever- Demand ur congress stop re-instating the state of emergency act they keep redoing-I have already spoken to My congressman and senator regarding -I will do so again and again-please all of U who live in America do the same and keep it up-Call,write,e-mail-Congress and Senate to let them know that this is NOT OK

The information Peltier's former lawyer, Bruce Ellison, gives us in this interview goes way, way beyond Leonard Peltier's case:

It's about the murders of 60-odd people on Pine Ridge, when a 'goon squad' was operating with total impunity there, perpetrating acts of violence against Native American, Lakota, people; FBI agents with a secret political agenda to dismantle AIM, never making a single attempt to end the Goon violence, protecting them rather than initiating criminal proceedings against them, never incriminating Goon squad members and/or BIA agents; fabricating testimony and evidence, coercing evidence from alledged 'eye-witnesses' against AIM members- AIM was declared a terrorist organization, yet all the acts of terrorism belong to the Goon Squad that has never been brought to justice; he murder of a woman named Anna Mae, whose 'official' autopsy states she died of exposure, when, in fact, she had a bullet hole to the back of thehead, that 'somehow' the trained forensic pathologist did not notice!

The govt apparently only recognizes the deaths of the 2 FBI agents Peltier is accused of having murdered; there have never been any serious investigations or prosecutions related to the deaths of the vast majority of these 60-odd Pine Ridge residents. Bruce Ellison says that less than half of dozen of these murders have been solved. If the murders incriminated a goon squad member or someone connected with the BIA police, they were resolved as something other than murder.

He also says that calls for congressional investigations and other investigations into FBI complicity with the murders on Pine Ridge have fallen on deaf ears.

We need a public congressional hearing before a committee with subpoena power that could lead a full inquiry into all these murders, without it being quashed before the hearings even get under way, as has happened in the past. We need to push for such hearings to get under way.
Is there a petition that we can sign for this?

Leonard Peltier has been eligible for parole since 1986, but from what Ellison says, there is a sort of govt-sponsored blackmail going on, with his being released on parole dependant on his admitting to the murder of the FBI agents...and they succeeded in getting coerced eye-sitness testimony into court records during someone else's trial in order to be able to exert this blackmail on him.
