PROTESTS TAKING PLACE IN SAN FRANCICSO, PHOENIX, TUCSON AND SONORA, MEXICO!

The Mexican government and a company called CEGIR/Centro de Gestion Integral de Residuos S.A. want to build a hazardous waste dump in O’odham territory, near the sacred site and village of Quitovac. The US EPA has failed to speak out to protect the O’odham who are US Citizens who would be affected by this dump. The proposed dump would desecrate the sacred ceremonial site of Quitovac and devastate the culture, traditions, sacred sites and spiritual well-being of the O’odham Indigenous peoples in both Mexico and the U.S. The dump would also expose children and nearby communities to dangerous toxins released to the land, air, and water, and could contaminate the underground well water the communities depend on.

Kudos to all the demonstrators, this is a sacred site and allowing a toxic waste next to it is morally, uethically, and unjust to native americans, NO WAY should this be done!

Kat, thanks for the news! I agree with everyone here on their comments! I would suggest writing letters to the US embassy in Mexico and letting them know how we feel and to the State Department in Washington.

There does not seem to be any respect for sacred ground. To put a smelly dump would be like putting it next to a cemetary. No one would do that nor would it be allowed. Sacred ground is the same thing as a cemetary and should be treated as such. COME ON PEOPLE LET'S SHOW THE RESPECT THAT IS DUE THE NATIVE AMERICAN PEOPLE.

I hope alot of people show up. You don't know what damage they do. I lived on one for nine years and didn't know it until my son and I got sick. There was lead, arsnic, nichol and several other. I went to jail twice in another state to stop another cell being added to the dump. We won.

Thanks for posting. I hadn't heard about this. And why does Mexico feel a need to dump their waste here? Wait, they already do!

This tribe (in AZ) is already having enough problems with illegal immigrants coming through - and dying in the desert. There are also a lot of drug traffickers wreaking havoc. These people are also creating environment damage, and leaving behind tons - literally, of trash.

Hopefully, local groups like The Center for Biological Diversity will take up the cause. Congressman Grijalva will also speak up, I'm sure.

I too wish I could be there in person, as I will be in spirit.

This is an EXTREMELY important issue, and deserves the STRONGEST protest action (if you let 'em get away with this now, they'll just keep on rollin' over you and what you hold sacred).

Power to the Protest!
