Sent very carefully crafted letter to the attention of Warden Scott Dodrill by email, asking him to have Leonard transported to the hospital to check on the status of his health. Four small paragraphs long, very respectful and signed most sincerely... Thanks Kat. I will be tracking this story in case you get more information regarding the situation. I am sure the phone lines are full. Hope he pays attention to his email as well. I sent the email because it is proof he was made aware of the situation and asked to act on it, so if he fails to do so and something happens to Leonard, we will have a bit of ammunition which can be used lawfully to file a case against the prison authority. Long distance phone records would help too. Hopefully they will take the correct action though so this wouldn't be necessary. I keep a copy of my letters and would suggest others do the same. They do have a lawful responsibility here and can be held liable.

It would be in the prison "authority's" best interest to see to the well being of this man. Why is he still there....? Not right....Thank you for the news,Kat. Keep us posted.

The American"Justus" system has never cared about Leonard's health. Remember the serious problems he had with his jaw, for the longest time, he could not even chew and eat properly, and it took an international alert and letter campaign, plus visits from VIPs to eventually get him the serious medical care he needed. Then recently there was another campaign about another problem with his health.

In general, many Native American prisoners have to suffer a lot due to medical neglect, it is often part of the discriminative and racist tactics of the administration and/or staff, or used as retaliation.

I am sure they would like nothing better than get rid of Leonard Peltier, as they consider him a thorn in their side and so does the FBI.

Thank you for sharing the news, Kat. May he be well, strong and safe. I will be tracking the story too and keeping him in my thoughts.

I pray Leonard will be all right and I'll continue to keep him in my thoughts. I hope the prison administration will see that he gets the medical attention he deserves.

They need to get him out of there so he can spend more time with his family what can we do for him? You say he is innocent then lets go look for a attorney that will help him. There is a organization I think it is called the innocence project that could help him. And if they prove he is innocent then the Government will have to pay him for all those years he has been in there. Lets all go look for it on the web and after we find it give it to Kat so she can give the information to his family. His family must need the help to not have their son or father or husband with them all those years. Lets get justice for leonard okay?

I know also lets hold a prayer vigil for him, lets all pick a time and all of us pray at that same time for him then the heavens will open up and God will hear us of all praying together. We will have to tell Kat what Country or state we live in so we can figure out at what exact time to pray because our times are different and we all have to pray at the same time. I live in California I know my Aunt lives in illinois and she is 3 hours ahead of me. So does anyone know someone good at math that can figure out a time line?

Doesn't anyone believe in the power of Prayer? A prayer vigil is where a whole bunch of people from all over prays for someone at the same time it is the most powerful prayer because God said when two or more people are gathered in my Name I am among them. So is anyone among you eager to start one? I already gave Kat the website for the innocents project. They help get people out of Prison who are falsely accused. So if anyone wants to have a prayer vigil for leonard let me know okay?

Medical Update

I just spoke to a relative of Leonards. He is thankful
for all the calls on his behalf and wants to be taken to the PRISON
Hospital Rochester . Not the Mayo clinic .

Leonard has sleep apthima and many times the guards wake him up
to ask if he is alright . He said when the guards woke him up in
the middle of the nite last nite to check on him he thought that
was what it was about .He said he still has chest discomfort and
a pain in his left arm.

He said again, he needs to get good test run, and thank you for
all of those who have called and ask for the calls to continue to
get him to the Prison Hospital in Rochester.

Any further updates will be passed alonng as they come out.

I emailed the warden yesterday. If you are located overseas and can't call, please send emails (respectful ones only). See below.
Once in a while they reply to emails but even if they don't, they know the world is keeping an eye on them.

Thank you for keeping us posted, Kat. Let us hope everything will be ok!

Health Alert: Peltier In Need of Medical Assistance
Forwarded on behalf of the Leonard Peltier Defense Offense Committee

Kari Ann Cowan, Peltier's niece, reported tonight (Friday) from the
prison at Lewisburg that Leonard may have suffered a heart attack.

"He had hard time breathing. He was in his cell and had an ache
in his chest. He was kinda scared he was having a heart attack. He
raised his hands, breathed slowly and finally felt better."

We need to call the prison and ask them to get Leonard to the
hospital in Rochester (MN) as soon as possible for a check up.

Be polite and courteous and express your concern for his health
and welfare.
We gotta step up.

Make reference to Leonard Peltier #89637-132.

Call Warden Scott Dodrill at (570) 523-1251.

Very sad about this. I hope his health improves and he is let out of jail. This is a crime to keep him there so long.

I phoned the Warden immediately. He sounded irritated and said " this is about the 12th call tonight" I specified that I was calling long distance from Ottawa Canada. that seemed to surprise him. He insisted that Mr. Peltier was ok, seen by prison doctor. This worries me a lot, since a prison doctor cannot properly diagnose heart problems. I got the impression that they felt that this was all that Mr. Peltier needed or had a right to. I truly hope that Mr. Peltier was not correct when he said:" I'll probably die in here"........But if we pressure them too much, it may backfire - that is often who institutions react....This is extremely worrisome. EVERYBODY FROM THE USA WRITE TO PRESIDENT OBAMA - I think he is Mr. Peltier's only real hope. there is a special link on the president's page.

I am sending my Thoughts and Prayers of Healing to Leonard Peltier & his family at this harrowing time. I will send an email to Warden Dodrill requesting that Leonard be taken to Prison Hospital Rochester for a thorough check up to make sure he has a clean bill of health. May the Great Spirit watch over him. My Beautiful Cat Shadow is watching over him from Rainbows Bridge too, and my Earth Cat Tiggy Willow is sending healing paws.

The word is that Leonard has received the necessary tests and
is feeling much better. He hasn't suffered a heart attack, but
is under enormous stress. He sends his thanks to everyone who
called/e-mailed the prison.

This occurrence... Well, it is a reminder that Leonard is the one
living the nightmare--every single day.

Let's redouble our efforts on Leonard's behalf this week. Time for
everyone to move out of the living room and into the streets.
You can download and print a parole letter at
Get everyone you know... oh, hey, even folks you don't know... to
sign a letter.

Remember that letters must arrive at the U.S. Parole Commission no
later than July 1.

Time to set him free... Because it is the RIGHT thing to do.

Kat, glad to hear all well. Have signed petition for parole review and sent letter. Where is the much vaunted American justice? Just because Leonard is a true American does not exclude him the right of justice and law!

With mixed blessings I am glad to hear that Leonard did not have a heart attack but he is far from a healthy man due to his years of incarceration despite innocence. Will continue to write and show support for Mr. Peltier
