Because pink sea fans are so vulnerable to damage and very slow-growing, they are supposed to be protected. But this rare coral found off the coast near Plymouth, Eng. is being buried in silt. The silt comes from dredging for warships at Devonport docks.

Older trees remove more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere than newer ones. So why is California now giving companies carbon credits to clear cut old-growth forests? Logging companies should be punished - not rewarded - for forest destruction!

In Australia, a Tribunal can override an adult's decision not to undergo electroshock therapy. But far worse, it can also force this therapy on children against parents' wishes. Some suffer permanent brain damage and even die from the treatment.

Chicken raised in the US may soon be processed in China, then sent back to US for consumption. Given China's sub-par food safety record, and for other reasons, this is a really bad idea.

A new report shows the UK has no nationwide standard for the quality of hospital meals. Because of this, some English patients have to put up with meals that aren't good for them and don't taste good either. Local authorities decide how much is spent.

The owners of Spain's Loro Parque say a vet's concerns about an orca named Morgan are exaggerated. But Loro wants this young orca captive and pregnant. Captivity is no place for these highly evolved mammals, and Morgan is way too young to be breeding.
