Rodeos are no longer welcome in New Zealand's largest city. The Auckland City Council resolved last week that as a matter of policy no rodeos would be permitted on council land because of animal welfare concerns.

Excellent news.
New Zealand sees to be one the most civilised of countries - they banned the export of live animals for slaughter some years ago,and I just read that in April they phased out mulesing of Merino sheep!
Australians - read it and weep!

Pam, I do read and weep that our government isn't following in New Zealand's footsteps but on the other hand I'm very happy for good things are happening in New Zealand. I didn't this and when I write to our PM about the live export trade I can mention that New Zealand has done the right thing why can't Australia.

Agreed re NZ they are a lot more principled than Australia in many ways. Good news re rodeos- perhaps it may be a small start.

If I get time I will write and congratulate council
